Any opinions on the 338 Express.
I have an old Marlin 30/30 that was given to me and ran across the 338 express on the internet. But gun broker only had 1 for sale and I was leaning towards stainless.
Ammo is not that big of deal, I don't shoot a lot and don't really like shooting.

How many Shorts do you have and how far away are they, 70 yards or less 30-30 100 yards or more 338.

I have both, a 16.25" 308MX and the 24" 338MX. The 16.25" doesn't give me anything over a 20" 30-30 but I like the round. The 140s scream out of the 24" gun. The 338 is bigger than anything I need but had to get it. It is a legit big game, medium range lever gun. My father-in-law killed an elk at 250ish yards with his.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I have the 308ME. It's one of my favorite hunting rifles. Very comfortable to shoot. Accuracy is sub-moa with factory Hornady ammo.

Just kinda shocked that you don't enjoy shooting. I'd assume otherwise about anyone here in these forums, but I guess I'd be wrong. Not meant as criticism...

I owned both the 308 & 338 ME but favored other leverguns so sold them. If you don't enjoy shooting, I'm not sure why you would get on the ME wagon. Ammo & components have always been a tough find or expensive. In the end, you probably would not have the interest in pursuing it. The 30-30 Win is a better 30-yard rifle than either of these, at least ammo is cheap.

To clarify, I like to shoot game. But going to the range and shooting just ain't my thing.
I have spent many hundreds of forced hours at the range. I just don't enjoy it s much as the next guy.

I have the 308ME. It's one of my favorite hunting rifles. Very comfortable to shoot. Accuracy is sub-moa with factory Hornady ammo. X2. I have killed literally hundreds of animals in the last 5 years with mine. It is my everyday ranch carry rifle. Incredibly accurate. Good to 300 yards all day long on hogs and goats. Finally after 4 years of use and not cleaning, my firing pin started sticking. One afternoon and 30 minutes later I was back in action. Love mine.
