Unfortunately my tower blind is due north of my feeder and 1/4 of the east end of my food plot. My blind is sealed pretty good and I make sure that I am pretty much scent free before I get into the blind. So if your box blind is pretty well sealed on the north side and you do not go out there all stinky you should be okay. If you have cedar in your area break a small branch, brush yourself down with it and bring it into the blind with you. Good luck he looks like a dandy

Downwind of the feeder is perfect.
But if it were upwind, like you described, it would depend. On my deer lease, I would. On a more pressured place, I’d get creative.

I built it 3 yrs ago with some scrap wood I had laying around. It has open windows as you can see. Rookie mistake! And those 4x4's are only 4 ft tall.

It's gonna be hot, our blinds are gonna smell like high school locker rooms by the end of the weekend. I wouldn't take the risk with such a bad wind

I agree with the fellas on figuring out a plan "B", run of the mill buck maybe not, but if it is one you really like......."hunt" this one.

I would get my climber and switch up down wind as well. I was kind of thinking this also. I've got one tree that I can use my climber on that's near this spot. I seen him the other day from about 500 yards out in the afternoon right in front of it. I hunted that tree once this bow season and saw deer. I just don't think a morning hunt would be smart of me to go in and maybe run him off making all that racket. Then again with almost 90 degree temps in the afternoon this weekend I'm still not sure.

My blind is directly north of my feeder pen and I hunt it no matter what. Who's to say from what direction a deer will approach the feeder. Even if they come in from the south they may or may not get your scent. I'm not skipping a day of hunting just because of the wind direction.

If he's coming to that feeder routinely, I'd hunt the stand. Do what you can to control or mask your scent. I think you're more likely to spook him with a new last minute stand.

To me at 150 yards up in a tower stand, I would keep the windows closed and hunt it.
For future reference we set up all our blinds and feeders east/west of each other and have yet to experience a wind that blows from setup to feeder.

Looking at the terrain in your pics you don't need a box blind. You have great oak trees to sit under on the ground. Sit down in front of a tree with the sun behind your back if possible.
A crosswind is just as good or even better than down wind, keeping deer from busting you from behind. Make sure you take some shooting sticks with you.

Well, yes if we were talking about my stand. If your seeing it and you want an opportunity and you are concerned with jumping him up from the other location opportunities then yes I would hunt it. I'd use something for cover scent.

Depending on terrian and which way the deer typically come from I'd say either a pop up or even on the ground. I kill most my deer sitting right on the ground with a tree/brush all around me just like turkey hunting. No matter what I would hunt the wind. Chances are this ole boy didn't grow that size head gear without pretty smart. Nothing worse than spending the rest of your season hunting an educated deer that is super reclusive. Best of luck bud!

I agree go in around 9am. get set up and wait for the magic to happen mid day. Z

I believe that you are overthinking the situation. A lot can happen in 150 yards; who is to say that scent travels directly to your feeder? Get in the blind and hunt away. Good luck!

Yeah I probably am over thinking it, but I just don't wanna screw it up again. I've had nice mature bucks in the past vanish the moment I started putting too much pressure on them. I bow hunt, but this year at a minimum and only when the conditions were right. I've seen more deer this year because of this. Now that rifle season is here my plan is to just hunt the blind since the deer are comfortable coming out of the woods now and during daylight.

Good luck. I wouldn't and don't hunt when the wind is wrong. People can call it over thinking it all they want, but experience has taught me that all you do is educate the deer and the older bucks don't stick around much if they keep busting you.
I have seen good stands turned to crap because of the hunters that had access to them. They came from a ranch that they said the wind didn't bother the deer too much, but 10 years later, they are finally learning it actually does on ours.

I agree with redchevy I always set my blinds up east/west, west/east for future spots. If it was me I would still hunt it especially if it's been showing up and try to cover my scent up as best as possible. In the future I might also try what my friends and I do. It seems to help but others might have an opinion. When working on feeders and stands hang up your hat or old shirt in the blind so they are used to your scent. I don't know if it works or not but I hunt a tripod and have never been busted.
