So is it safe to consume these gigantic mutant looking HF deer? I was talking to a buddy yesterday while we were hunting wild deer. Is it safe? Do people that pay 10k to shoot a deer even eat it anyway?

Grain fed deer are the best..

Grain fed deer are the best.. I don't think it's the grain he's concerned about. Likely the steroids. I'd say they are safe to eat and no most those guys do not eat them anyways. Probably donate to HFH

I was just curious, never really thought about it until my buddy posed the question. We ended the day at 2130hrs after a 3mile pack out with a 150-160ish muley...and what felt like 100lbs of meat split between the two of us.
Good day.

Probably donate to HFH If they used steroids they would never grow antlers. Increased testosterone cases antelets to harden, decrease cause them to grow.

Just a lot of protein and genetic manipulation?

Mutany in HF? Never
Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

Just a lot of protein and genetic manipulation? Genetics and peak nutrition. The elite breeders have exceptional genetically traced does. The breeding you see now in short is a result of decades of historical genetic data on both sides of the reproductive equation You don’t manipulate genetics unless you can changes gene sequence. Deer breeding and HF are two different things though

Do people that pay 10k to shoot a deer even eat it anyway? Those big 350lb 300inch deer I kill in Kansas are sure good eatin. The Amish deer breeders are the best in the country at breeding deer.

There is clearly some bad HF information out there, or maybe the OP was just trying to stir the pot.

HF and breeding facilities are not the same. One you control every aspect of breeding and nutrition and the other you can only manage ratio and carry capacity. Lots of HF with no introduced genetics.

Just a lot of protein and genetic manipulation? plenty of food and water, not much stress... if they're pen raised deer, there's basically zero stress and they have to walk less than 100 feet to get a meal. everything they eat is perfectly balanced for nutrition. then of course, the genetics are solid. I would bet that if you took 10 random native bucks out of county X, and put them in a 5 acre pen when they were yearlings, in 5 years you would have at least 5 170+" deer. just a guess...

My Ex brother inlaw has 1200 acres high fenced. He plants a whole lot of groceries for his deer during the spring and fall. Supplements with protein and minerals. Last one I had off their tasted just fine
