I ordered one of the Ruger FTW's in 6.5 Creedmoor simply because Ruger doesn't make the 6.5 in a left hander in the American Rifle. Actually, I really wanted it in the Predator model but they don't make it in that one either.
The FTW is a souped up M77 with a Nat Gear synthetic stock, stainless and muzzle break. I mounted a Trijicon 3-9x40 on it and grabbed a box of Hornady American Whitetail ammo with the 129 grain InterLock bullet.
The reason that I wanted to experiment with the caliber is because I have been shooting a Savage Model 14 in .270 WSM and the recoil is a little more than what I like and more gun than I need when hunting whitetails.
After getting the rifle pretty well sighted in, I was able to put two in a hole at 100 yards and the third was less than a half inch to the right but I blame that on operator error. I was shooting the rifle out of my pickup window and using the mirror as a rest. I am not sure if it is the caliber, rifle or muzzlebreak, (most likely a combination of all three) but I swear that this rifle recoils no worse than my .22-250 in the American Rifle. I think that I am going to like this one...see what it will do to a mature deer.
Adios,
Gary

I was looking at one of these before I went with the 5R. I may make one my next rifle purchase so good to know you like it and it shoots that well.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

I've been a believer in any of the 6.5 calibers for a long time. Probably the most common bullet in European rifles. Personally shot .264 mags up through the early 2000's. House was broke in to and both of my .264's were stolen. Recently set up a 6.5x47 Lapua and it's a 1/4" gun with 140 grain Berger bullets and a pleasure to shoot. Set this gun up as a looong range rifle. Went with the Lapua instead of the Creedmoor because I handload and like the Lapua brass and the shoulder angle of the 6.5x47. My next light weight hunting rifle will be a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Redneck rifle rest, don't believe I've sighted a rifle in off the bench in over 40 years. They also make a fine deer blind!

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

No doubt. Heater, radio, mobility. Great blinds.
