I need opinions on both. Pros, cons, etc.
I’ve driven Chevy for years. Always had a 1/2 ton want a 3/4 for camper and hauling toys.
About $70,000 is my limit. Thanks in advance.

4x4?
I've always had 1/2 ton Chevys, everyone will have their opinion. I like the room in the rear on the Chevy, fords seems like your knees are up in your chest. Good luck.

The biggest pro is also a con. The front suspension, I prefer the independent front suspension it has a better ride... but it needs to go if your going to run really big tires.

I have one the engine got some improvements in 2017....

Feel free to PM me.

4x4 yes. There is more room in the Ford to me than the Chevy. I have 2-3 year olds and need space for the in rear seat area. I like the ride quality in the Chevy over the Ford as well. Truck will be used very little as a daily driver. I have other vehicles for that. I just want something bigger for hauling the toys a bit easier.
I’ve had a 2014 Silverado 1/2 Ton Crew for 4 years. Want to move up to a diesel truck. Truck will only have a level done and +1 size tires. I don’t care for lifted truck.

The 2017 and up Superduty feels MUCH smaller inside to me.

Just a little info from what i have observed this last 5 yrs since i live where 9 out ten vehicles are trucks . For pretty trucks for driving around and light duty i can 5 out of 10 are 1/2 ton Ford and the other 5 are Dodge , Chevy and Titans and Tundras . But for work trucks pulling trailers and up to 45’ long goosenecks i see mostly Dodge and Ford F250 HDs’ . Maybe 2 out of 10 are Chevy . Heavy oil field related work out here in W Texas and if it's not a Dodge it’s bet it’s a Ford F250 . But hardly ever do i see a chevy doing any kind of heavy duty work .

New Chevy might never be able to be tuned. Basically means you're stuck with em issions related troubles if they start up.

There are already programmers out there for them.

I was in the same boat you were in....my last 3 trucks had been 1/2 tons ( 2 fords and a Chevy)

I drove all 3 of the diesels...Ford, Chevy and Dodge.

in my opinion.....

Chevy must sell duramaxes to people who have never driven a real diesel before. The IFS has horrible turning radius and the front end wears out to quick (my 1/2 ton was shot at 80k miles). They are slow, and not in the same league comfort wise at the other two. Another thing I didn't like was the location of the DEF tank....I would break it on a rock at least once a week.

Dodge makes a good truck, very reliable and tough. Cummins is a proven engine. Basically, I passed on it because the prices being the same, the Ford has more power.

Ford, I drove the new diesel about 5 times...did not really care for it. Power was great, but it is a beast of a truck size wise. However, a 1/2 ton just did not suit my lifestyle anymore and I went ahead and bought the diesel. a month later.....I don't know what I was thinking about being on the fence. I love the truck. Rides great (as well as my 1/2 tons ) and has boat loads of power. Mileage ok, being in line with current emmissions equipped trucks.

I don't regret moving up to a diesel....but heed my advice and stay away from Chevy diesels.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yeah chevy diesels aren't worth a chit.

Dad has an 04 with 250k miles on it. He was getting ready to sell it and buy a new one because of some little things going on with it. I replaced 2 window motors, fixed his tailgate latch, oil and fuel filter change, and he said he changed his mind and wants to keep it lol.

For the L5P? Must be something I'm overlooking as none of the major tuners have anything yet that I know of.

My DEF has over 200k on it, no issues when I deleted it 185k.

Also, the chevy has the same block since 2001 I believe. Ford went through a couple cluster Fs and even Dodge changed their's up. It's not a grocery getter. PROVEN engine.

Never said they arnt reliable

But that 04' would have trouble pulling a door closed compared to the Ford or dodge

My cousin works in the oil patch and has driven every kind of diesel they make.

Loved his dodge and loves his Ford. Hates his Chevy duramax they gave him now.

I really wanted to buy a Chevy this last go around. Drove two duramaxes and said "no effing way"

Plus with the new fords and a leveling kit you can run 37" tires grin

I have three friends with new Duramax's and they all love them. Strongest engine and most reliable of the big three and I think they ride better. I know of a few companies that have changed their fleet trucks to Chevys and they all say maintenance cost are down.

Ford has 15 more ft.lbs of torque

Yet it still lost in this years gauntlet test towing 22,000 pounds to the Duramax.

Man these wheel wells do suck on the Chevy. But a good thing I guess, 35s cost enough as it is and I dread climbing into the bed.

They don't make a Megacab long bed, AND it's about 15-20k to have one made after you buy the truck.....

And you don’t need a long bed if you have a trailer

I wouldn't ever buy a diesel without a long bed. It's the only way to haul all the tools I need and still have enough bed space to hook to a gooseneck without moving stuff every time. I have a chest box in the front, side boxes down the full length on both sides, and a compressor/generator, and can still hook to a goose.

I rolled over 19k on the Duramax yesterday and have been pleased so far. The location of the def fill port is dumb and the factory tires on it suck but it pulls just fine.

That's a boll buggy with a scale system for doing research plots. Also known as a sail when pulling it down the hwy.

There was a 8 row stripper with the buggy following it to the right of where we were in that field.

I have a 17 denali. The new motor has a bulletin out for a tapping sound coming at idle. Sounds very similar to the lifter tap the vortec motors make. Its annoying. My truck also consumes DEF. I had a 15 denali and a 16 high country before falling for the new big motor. Im not sold for what its worth.
