Hey guys..I think I messed up on a box of new ammo..I was looking at one aspect of a particular round..instead of knockdown, killing power I took for granted that if it had better accuracy..it would get the job done..question..Will the 308 load in a federal matchking bthp expand enough to do the job..that's a broad question..but after reading reviews in knockdown power..maybe I should have stuck with my old standby Remington 150 gr core lokt instead of the 168gr match bthp..thoughts??

It will get the job done but there are much better choices for hunting than a Sierra Match King. I shoot Sierra Game King's for whitetail sized-game out of my 7mm-08s. If you want better accuracy from a match-type bullet made for hunting, look at the Bergers. I shoot them out of my 08s, too.

It'd probably be adequate, but HP match bullets are not built for expansion, or terminal ballistics.

The Core-Lokt is adequate also, but way outdated.

Do you hand load? There are dozens of newer designed bullets that are optimal for hunting, that are better than adequate IMO. I like Barnes copper bullets myself, but there are many others.

While not needed every time, for serious hunting I prefer quality, top of the line projectiles.

My guns love the corelokt ammo number one and I've used other ammo where the scenario has to be right to achieve the same result. Best thing to do is find ammo that you trust and feel comfortable with and use it. As far as new bullets go "why fix whats not broken?"

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Back when I reloaded a lot I read that the 168 grain BTHP was about the most accurate bullet for 30.06. I loaded some and the only deer I shot with one was the first and probably only deer I have ever shot with a gun that I had to track. Small entrance hole and small exit hole. After that I went back to the 165 grain CoreLokt.

If you shoot behind the shoulder you will get the ice pick effect described, it will kill them but not DRT, not ideal. Hit shoulder/spine explosive but lots of blood shot meat. Neck or head works great but all bullets do. My experience with that bullet, can it be done yes ideal no.

I've rarely seen double-lung result in a DRT. D, yes, but usually 20-100yds later.

Hornady Superformance 165 gr. SST

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.
