Hey everyone, new to the forum and new to upland hunting. I was wondering if there are any locations near the San Antonio area to quail hunt that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks

Tell us more about yourself. What breed is your pup? You might want to look up the NSTRA trial in Florsivele in December. They have all pointing breeds from pointers on down there. You will be free to put your pup in the field after the trial Saturday.

Get a public land permit $49, lots of places south

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm 36 and have been dove hunting since I was about 11 I guess. My 11 year old lab passed away on Monday so this weeks been pretty tough. As of now I don't have a pup but I'm considering different breeds. I duck hunt as well so I'm a little torn. I trained my lab to retrieve so I'd consider training a upland pup but I feel like that should be down the road.

I do have a public land permit but have never used it for quail. Is the NSTRA trial open to the public?

Thank you for the info, I'm going to look into the dates and see if I can make my way over.

So I finally did it! Purchased my first GSP September 2nd. I'd like to find a place to either hunt or watch a hunt over some dogs, so that I can see how a hunt works. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

How old is the pup? Has he been exposed to gun fire? Don't know if she still trains but Bonnie Sue in Cibilo trains

13 weeks old and no gunfire exposure. Several fun bumpers a day and a allow him to lead some on walks (10ft rope). I live on 3.5 acres so we have some brush. The rain has slowed me down a bit as far as getting deep into the brush.

If you want to see how a hunt works as you say, buy Harley Jackson American gun dog videos. The videos show him hunting all different wild birds in many different states all behind point8ng breeds

That's the plan! I sure will and I'm really looking forward to it.
