I've been reviewing the cam pictures and trying to figure out the best time to sneak into the popup during the dark of morning. Deer are at the feeder at 4-6am and then right after sunup. Being the popup is for bow hunting , it is set up 22 yards away from feeder(which Put deer in the 15-35 yard range when in the feeding area) . Normally I would try to get set up around 5:30 am but after walking up on two deer bedded last weekend I really don't know what time I should head out . feeder is set to go off at 6:30 am and 4:30 pm.

What are some of y'alls strategies for heading out in the morning time.

Get there before daylight every morning no matter what. Only thing I may change is I may hunt later into the morning. Use a red light while walking in, the deer may run off but they prob don't know you are a human. Also maybe think about changing the way you walk into the stand by using different routes.

In a situation like that its tough, there'e not a whole lot you can do. But 5:30 seems a bit early. Not sure where you are hunting but for us it gets light at 7:15 right now which is when I have the feeder going off to avoid deer being there coming in and leaving before I can see what they are. With daylight and feeder going off at 7:15, I get in the pop up at about 6:15

30 minutes to one hour before the feeder goes off unless the deer are still primarily nocturnal. In that case, I skip morning hunts.

I would change that feeder time to 7:30. I try to be in the stand about 30 minutes before first light.

We're in the blind a full hour before the feeder goes off. We do sometimes scare off a few deer on the way in but they're usually the resident "cornheads" and they come right back as soon as things settle down.

Exactly! If you're feeding at 6:30 am you're feeding in the dark way before legal shooting time.

I was going to move the feeder timer back this weekend for daylight savings time but leave the feed set at 6:30 am . That should put the morning feed set at about first light correct?

First order of business for me would be to come up with an alternative blind that I could come and go without spooking the deer that are bedding near your feeder. Needs to be down wind and a bit further away from feeder if you are rifle hunting. Slip in about 10 minutes before legal so you can come in without a light. Probably just a makeshift brush blind this late in the game. If they are bedding at your feeder, you need to shift to stealth mode for the morning hunt.

Yes that should be about right. After daylight savings you should be able to see enough by 6:30 to shoot, 6:45 might be a bit "safer"

I try to be in the stand and seated an hour before sunrise or about 20 minutes before first light, the time at which you can begin to see light on the eastern horizon. If the moon is full or close to it, I may arrive as late as 9am and will stay at least until noon. That's how I took a buck last season. Didn't see anything until 10:30 when you would have thought someone had just opened the gate.

I use the US Naval Observatory website when I need to know what time is sunrise. It also tells you the beginning of "civil twilight" or the time before sunrise when you can see and work safely outside without the aid of artificial light. I consider it the time when it's safe to shoot. Of course, overcast conditions throw these times off for sure.

What is also valuable about the site is that lunar data can be used to determine peak feeding times for fish and game, if you believe in that type of thing. The theory is that fish and game feed roughly every 12-1/2 hours during two-hour windows (give or take) when the moon is directly overhead (moon transit) and then roughly 12-1/2 hours later when the moon is "underfoot" or facing the opposite side of the globe. With this data, I never have to look at a feeding chart or calendar. And I should add the times I watch for most are when the moon will be directly overhead during the early morning or late evening when deer prefer to move and feed anyway. Those cold, frosty mornings when the moon is high overhead should never be missed.

hour before legal shooting time is what I try to do, but minimum 30 minutes before ... feeder goes off after legal shooting time about 7:15-20 by the time we are in now.

At least an hour before sunrise and if I can make myself get up earlier I will get there 1 1/2 hour early, 1 hour before shooting time.

Your killing yourself with the 6:30 feeder time. That's in the dark. Why would you do that. I hunt some very wary deer. I have all my feeders set to 8am. I get there in the dark at 6:45 and never push deer.

One other really cool strategy that is a killer where I hunt in West Tx is the have a bow set up on a east to west running wind break. Like a bluff or ridge. Something with good cover. You set up on the edge of the cover with your feeder deep in the cover. In my case it's a creekbottom lined with the only huge trees within miles. There is a steep bluff on one side of the creek so the cold north wind is blocked. it's peaceful down in the bottom even on a windy day. I have that feeder going off once a day at Noon.

So on a real nasty cold day I'll go hunt elsewhere. Around 10:30 I get out and head to this quite noon stand and have had days where they just keep coming in. It's also nice to have cause if I get in late. I just sleep in and hit that stand.of coarse it's got to be a north wind:)

Been getting there about 6, feeder goes off at 645. Always scare some deer off but the usual campers come back.

This time of year, I get to the stand between 6-6:15 and feeder goes off at 7:15. I can't shoot with my bow but doesn't take long.

If you are bumping bedded deer on your way in, I would see if I could find another way in. I have bumped some deer coming in, but they were at the feeder and ours don't seem to run far when it is dark and as long as they don't smell you.

Good luck up

Right now I like to be in my blind by 5:15am at the latest. If I can’t make it by then, then I get in my blind at 8:30am after the deer have left the feeder because they come back in again around 10-11am. Then as it gets colder they seem to come back to the feeder every 2 hours after that. This season has been a rough one for us and we have a lot more bucks showing up and chasing the Doe’s off the feeders so the Doe have been going nocturnal. We also had a problem with a neighbors dogs getting out and running the deer on our hunting property where my buddy lives. Hopefully things are going to get back to normal this weekend. Two years ago we had this problem with the ladies pack of dogs and they were coming over to our feeders and pissing all over the place. Dogs are just doing what they do and it’s the neighbors responsibility to keep their dogs on their property during deer season. But it still pissed me off lol.
