This was a pretty good night and a lot of fun. GPS says I got in about 3500 yards of stalking. The first hunt was very challenging. The last hog was hardly more than getting out of the truck and grabbing the rifle and sticks to take a shot. Gotta love the easy ones, but the hard ones make you really appreciate the accomplishment.

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf

That was strange they stayed in range long enough for the kills. Great job.

Man, you gotta love a good triple. It had been several years since I had one, and then we have had 2 this year. One with me and my daughter a few weeks ago, and one a solo triple earlier this spring. Both on daytime sets. Usually it takes both your calling game and shooting game to be on to make a triple happen. You stayed cool and patient, that made that set work. Excellent job.

Oh, I have missed many doubles and one other triple. Usually things happen so fast after the first shot, there isn't a lot of opportunity and certainly not for well aimed shots. So I got very situationally lucky.

Oh, I have missed many doubles and one other triple. Usually things happen so fast after the first shot, there isn't a lot of opportunity and certainly not for well aimed shots. So I got very situationally lucky. That is kind of what I mean about the triples. Things have to be going good, and happen right. Lots of times I have the opportunity for doubles but just get one of the two. My triple this spring was nearly a quad. I've never done that before, and probably never will. I had a pair come in and shot the further one first at 145. Closer one got confused and ran at me, I killed him on a crossing shot a touch over 100. I loaded back up and kept calling, and 6 minutes later a second pair came in on the exact same line as the first pair had. Decided I would handle it the same way, except I counted my chickens before they hatched. I was already thinking of #4 before I killed #3 (a sure way to screw it up). #3 started moving again right as I pulled the trigger and I shot where it had just been and not where it was, because I wasn't focused. Things turned into a rodeo at that point. Luckily I ended up getting a shot again at 385 with almost zero wind, and punched that 87 VMAX right through the throat of the one I had just missed. My Father kept a logbook of all of his calling and kills. He never counted a coyote unless he touched it, no maybes at all. In 20 years of calling he logged 506 coyotes and 26 bobcats. He had 8-10 triples in that time, but never a quad. I think the most he ever killed in a day was 6, but that was hard calling all day long. He usually called solo as well.
