Or an answer without a question? Hornady is calling this cartridge the big brother to its popular 6.5 Creedmoor, designed to fit in short or medium actions with a standard magnum bolt face (.532”). Its case geometry features a long cartridge case neck and 30 degree cartridge case shoulder. 6.5 PRC LINK
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

There is no substitution for cubic inches. LOL I wonder how that translates to shooting. Getting hit by a bowling ball at "x" fps or Getting hit by a golf ball at the same fps. Discuss....

When I saw the ammo a few days ago it made me wish my new gun wasn't being chambered in 6.5saum. Would be nice to be able to grab factory ammo in a pinch. It's only 40-50fps off from it.
Should be a winner

The obstacle in its success to over taking the 6.5cm is not going to be about performance advantage. It will be pricing of ammo. I remember when i was looking into it a few years ago, 6.5cm was cheaper than 260 and I highly doubt it's some "settled truth" that one performs better than the other.
To me, this will be a question of cost.

There isn't anything I could even dream of doing that a 6.5 creedmoor won't do. You need bigger dreams. Let me re-phrase - there isn't anything that 99% of shooters/hunters want to do that a 6.5 creedmoor can't do, and do it really well with limited recoil and excellent accuracy.

We will let you know what we find out here shortly. I should have my first case of ammo from Hornady potentially the end of this week. Looking at having one built by next weekend for a hunt to see how it does. Derrick

The Mag bolt face will be the biggest hindrance. Who wants to buy a mag bolt to swap to it.
Just seemed like solving a problem that didn't exist to me.

So it's just a touch shorter than a 6.5x284?

Yes its a short action mag. The reality of it is you will see most of them built in custom actions. But what we are hearing is it is based on the 300 RCM case and that Ruger may do a factory rifle in it. Which if I was speculating that is why they did not do the SAUM or the GAP, but that is 100% speculation. Sounds like most of the ammo wont drop to shops till December, which leads me to believe that with SHOT in January the Ruger talk may be true.

Not buying it. I'll stick with 6.5CM or my SAUM. This inbetween stuff no good unless Hornady goes balls to the wall with all the gun manufacturer's coming along.

6.5 field getting mucho crowded.
Just to name a few factory offerings: 26 Nosler .260 Remington 6.5 Creedmoor 6.5 PRC (ammo at least, guns likely to follow) 6.5x.284 .264 Win Mag 6.5 Weatherby Mag 6.5x47 Lapua 6.5 Grendel 6.5x55
Granted, there is a lot of space between the Grendel and the Nosler/Weatherby, but you're splitting some fine hairs at this point. Then you have the SAUM, GAP, 6.5-06, and several other wildcats in there.

The Rim is .532 and doesn't look rebated, so I am guessing that it is the .300 RCM necked down.
You did what?

Ironically the make the saum brass for gap yet came out with this round very odd. 7mm-08AI with small primers is where it's at!

It's not based on the SAUM or the WSM, both of which are larger in diameter than .532, thus the rebated rim. It is based on the .375 Ruger case shortened, ala .300 RCM. In other words, it is the same diameter as the belt on a belted case, thus no rebated rim. And Hornady was in on the creation of the .375 Ruger and .300 RCM. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2017/10/new-hornady-6-5-prc-precision-rifle-cartridge/

Supposed to feed better for those who use regular top loading rifles and don't use detachable mags
