I have started to try and do one “Bucket List” hunt each year now. This year my buddy and I decided to go to Seven J Outfitters in Sundance WY and try to stick an antelope. I had seen many hunts (mainly deer and elk) at 7J on outdoor TV shows (especially Real Tree) and this place did not disappoint. Jeff & Deb Smith and all their staff were top notch and did everything they could to put you on animals and the food at dinner was always awesome. The only bad thing about the whole trip was we were hunting over water holes and they had the wettest summer anyone could remember. It actually rained on 2 of the 3 days we hunted. Another thing about hunting water hole antelope…. they may water anytime during the day so you basically get in the blind at daylight and stay until about an hour before dark. Fourteen hours in a pop up in the middle of August is not a lot of fun especially not when the hunting is slow and seeing animals is few and far between. Except for a few exceptions, they don’t even come near water holes when they can get a drink out of any tire track in the road LOL. I had a really big goat bedded down at about 300 yards on day two but he never came to water at the tank I was at. I had actually passed on a really nice one mid-morning thinking the big one would follow suit and come get a drink at some point during the day. Didn’t happen and I was kicking myself. Anyway, it was still an absolute blast and I was able to get a decent goat in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. All the hunters we shared camp with were absolutely great and we had some fun nights on the patio consuming adult libations and basically cracking each other up.

So what was the range that you took your speed goat? A 22 yard chip shot. I did all my summer practice at 40-60 yards and was killing the hell out of the foam critters LOL. Practicing at distance makes any shot inside 40 so much easier.

Congrats I’ve eaten two tags now on my Archery antelope adventures. I hate them even more now!!!
