So a while back I put in a no till plot at my main set on Ft Hood and it has done better than expected thanks to some advice from STXranchman. I haven't had any deer on cam at the feeder in daylight in weeks so I put a cam on the plot and caught a nice mature 8 point walking through about a week ago and decided I would use an old brush blind I had there to bow hunt. I went in fixed the blind up a little a few days ago and then the front came in and the wind has been wrong for the last couple days. Today the wind was back out of the south so I made my first sit of the yr. Right at daylight I see a deer coming from the same direction as the nice 8 did and then I see antlers and I got real excited. He hung up just to the left of the plot and the anxiety began to build. When he finally came into the plot I realized he wasn't the mature 8 but instead a young very nice 8 I have seen a few times on cam so I past him up so he can hopefully survive and get bigger. He stayed in the plot for a few minutes right at 20 yards broadside tempting me and then he moved on. About an hour later I hear hogs behind me in the cedar to my right and then a fight breaks out. I could see 2 hogs going at it but had no shots bc it was too thick. After a few seconds they quit fighting and continued to feed. After patiently waiting about another hour they finally came out of the cedar and spread out but I still had no shot until a sow decided to leave the pack. She was walking directly at my brush blind and stopped about 5 ft from it and turned broadside and I just pointed the crossbow and pulled the trigger I didn't even aim she was so close. Soon as I pulled the trigger blood went shooting everywhere it was incredible. She only ran about 20 yards stopped and and fell over. The other hogs had no clue what had happened and were going nuts running around her and snorting and growling and finally just walked off. This is my first kill with the Barnett Wildcat C6 and it was memorable to say the least.

What broadhead are you using? I shot a sow last week at 35 yards with fixed broadhead but never recovered her. Great job as well

100 gr Muzzy trocar 3 blade fixed blade. Mind you the shot was less than 5 yards and it punched through easily. She was dead about 30 seconds after I shot her.

She was standing right next to the small tree you can see past the left limb on my crossbow in front of the brush blind.

5 yards! Nice! You beat me, my closest was 15 yards and that was too close for my comfort zone with a hog. Good job!

Tell us about the no till food plot.. what worked, what didn't work.. I see choppers out of ft hood flying over fairly often..I would think we have similar terrain.

I was limited what I could do because of equipment so I used a large cedar I had cut down to make a shooting lane and I drug it behind my truck to knock down the existing vegetation and scrape up the top soil. After that I spread a bag of seed from tractor supply, it was rye grass, clover, and brassica and then I spread some oats as well. After that I drug the tree over the area a few more times to cover the seed and then the next day we got some real good rain and next thing I know it's 6 inches tall.
