Not trying to push buttons or be disrespectful, but are your clients ever opposed to shooting a deer with an ear tag? I'm not anti-high fence by any means, but I just dont think it would be the same IMO..

Of course some people have reservations when it when comes to seeing ear tags. No offense taken at all, I see that as a question and to me that's perfectly fine to ask questions. On this ranch several bucks and does are bought every year as yearlings and released. No bucks are released past the yearling age. The tags are left in simply to ensure that the ones bought are given the opportunity to make to 5 years of age. This gives them the opportunity to breed and spread genetics for several years. I know it may not be appealing to look at prior to shooting them for some hunters but when it comes down to shooting one with a tag in its ear or shooting one with a hole where the tag was cut out is really the same thing. We do have many bucks that are born on the ranch with no ear tags that still easily go over 200 inches. I just try to post pictures of both tagged and non tagged deer from time to time just so there is no surprise if a client shows ups and see a buck walking with tags still in. Again I do appreciate the way you asked the question dirtnap rather than just coming out being negitive about it.

Tag or not, that's a really nice buck! And I'm sure that tag don't make him tame either....right?
Mmmm Hmmm

That is a beautiful classic looking deer.
To me, that is the best of what high fence ranchers can do - raise beautiful examples of classic looking deer.
The animals with the cactus like explosions on their head just make me sad for the animal.
Congratulations Casey, well done.
