Hog hunting on Corps land banned. Can anyone confirm if this is for Lavon only, or for all Corps land. On the news tonight they made it sound statewide. Only article I can find.

Ok, this is just for Lavon corps land, not all corps land. The new hog hunting ban is in effect only during Collin county deer season dates due to an ongoing Deer poaching problem.

From the new Fort Worth District Hunting Guide under Lavon:

"Feral hog hunting will not be allowed in all areas during
archery and general deer season dates as noted for Collin County."

They are still hunting hogs year around on Granger and it's Corps' land. I know because I'm here right now.

Sad that's what it's come to but glad it's not a complete ban.

That lake has had some odd rules even before this recent change. I don't know if it was because of hog doggers or worries about deer/hog poachers that caused the knee jerk rule change, but hunting dogs used at lavon have to wear orange vests per the rules there. When I asked for a clarification I was told it did include retrievers while waterfowl hunting. I doubt that rule is followed closely by hunters though.

The fact that we cannot bow hunt for deer on lavon corps is ridiculous. We have a public place with some of the biggest deer in Texas running around and they are either dyeing of old age or jumping the fence and being killed on 5 acre lots bordering the corps property simply because 1 person.... that is right 1 person is in charge of that decision. It's bull crap and needs to be addressed.

There should be a draw for deer on lavon just like grapevine. Period.

I suspect pressure put on the corps from local bordering landowners worried about their deer being poached is a bigger factor in the change than TPWD enforcement issues is. I agree with you, a managed deer draw for a small number of permits modeled on grapevine, benbrook, or even georgetown would solve the poaching problem. The Corps would have a team of permitted hunters with boots on the ground calling in any and all suspected poachers. If it is as much a problem as they say, it would result in much less deer being killed and those that were, would be legal.

This has nothing to do with the state, this is federal land, and the hunting coordiantor is in cahoots with the bordering private landowners mad
