Has anyone ever used one of these to dehair a hog?

Ah I love the smell of burnt hog hair in the morning.

When I was a youngster we killed hogs in the fall. It was the job of my brother and I to dip the hog in hot water and scrap the hair. We could have used this, but there was no cordless drills back in thems days. The only good part was at the end of the day we rendered the skin into lard which produced " fried pig cellulite". food

Roger that, and meat turns out WAY more tender BBQ'd. Snake's got it figured out. It's well worth the effort IMO.

Not much effort required to wave a torch and wipe with a glove...a whole lot less effort than scraping or skinning one...
cheers

We still scald the old fashioned way. I like to put olive oil and salt the skin. It tastes good. I don't think it would be the same if it was torched first. barf

I ordered one. I have a portable steam machine that I will see if that will loosen the hair. Then use this. I'll post the results when I get to use it.

Does the torch not blister or crust over the skin? it's still pliable? really good idea if you can still strip the skin for cracklins or leave on for whole hog Q

It does blister a little but not bad if keep the torch moving and work your way down to the skin in layers....just burn and wipe and burn and wipe until there isn't any hair left.

This is the thread detailing how I do it

That scraper still requires that you scald the the pig in order to remove the hair.

So if you have a huge tub and a way to get the water boiling, dip the hog in the water for awhile, then use the tool or hand scrape. You'll end up scraping quite a bit by hand anyways because you won't be able to get it all with the roto scraper.
