I'm thinking about an Ar-15 type rifle for my wife. She likes shooting rider's like bobcat's, coyotes, foxes, and thing's like that. She likes to shoot pig's also and I know a .223 is a little light for that. I'm fairly settled on the rifle but need help on the scope. You opinion and preference will help me decide. Thank's for any input.

At what range does she most often shoot?

A low-powered variable is common on ARs, though lately they range up to as much as 8x.

I have 1x-4x scopes on my hunting ARs, but I hunt at fairly close range.

Pretty much any scope you like can be used on an AR, so if she has a favorite...........

A .223 definitely isn’t too light for a hog. I use a .22 mag a lot of the time but on my AR I have a leupold AR scope with the Custom dial system

I've run fixed 6x, 2-7x and 3-9x on various AR's. I do like a low powered variable scope. I just recently put a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x on my latest AR build. My wife really likes that one. Should be great on pigs out to 200yds or more. Most of our shots are inside 100. .223 make easy work of them at that range.

1-4 or 1-6.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I run an SWFA 3-9 mil/mil Super Sniper on my AR and love it. It's a good one for the money.

I would suggest you pay close attention to eye relief, and don't sacrifice any of it to gain more magnification over a 1-4. Assuming it is relatively close range shooting that is....

The biggest challenge for my wife is getting everything lined up in the scope, even at 1x. The higher the magnification, the harder it is for her.

I’ve got a 1-4 Trijicon Accupoint on my 6.8 for pretty much the same purpose. It’s a true 1x so it does very well with both eyes open. Excellent glass too. Don’t think I’d trade it for anything in the same price range.
