Had back surgery last year and was struggling to shoot my bow, so my wife bought me a Barnett Fx2 last year. I still was not able to hunt last year so I put it in the case. I pulled it out today sighted it in and on the 7th shot my string exploded and scared the you know what out of me! I know this particular Barnett CB is not there top of the line but geez! Went and changed my shorts and Put it right back up pulled my bow out.
Is this a common thing with CB's?

Did your nock crack and end up dry firing it? You might have gotten a bad string. Does the string look dry and is there wax on it? Were you using broadheads and could have touched the string with the blade while laying it on the rails? There's a bunch of things that it could be. But you could have gotten a bad string. Can you post some pictures to help you out. I would definitely call Barnett on this one. I just read on some comments on YouTube that people were having problems with the Barnett strings breaking on their new crossbows so it's probably a defective string. Look this video up on YouTube and read the comments below it where people are saying that their strings broke too. Here is the name of the video on YouTube.

I had back surgery 5 years ago and the doctor screwed it up so now I am waiting to go back in for a back fusion surgery. Oh joy lol. Glad you were not hurt from your crossbow accident.

Your bow is from a time when Barnett was having a serious string issue across the board on their crossbows. A high percentage of strings were breaking. I saw one break the first time it was drawn back to shoot, that one was ready to shoot less than 3 minutes before "pop goes the string".

Call Barnett and if you registered the bow there is a good chance they will fix it or at least send you a string. they might want you to take it to a shop that sells Barnetts and does Warranty work for it to be checked out. If you do not have a crossbow press you will have to take it in anyway to get it fixed or send back to Barnett and have them fix it.

To answer your question this is not a common occurrence with most crossbows but for too long was with Barnett crossbows. It wasn't with just one model either it was spread across their crossbows from the lowest price to the $1400 Razr.

Their CS is open I think 9-5 M-F Eastern Time. Have seen way too many barnett strings that looked like that.

Inspect the limbs for cracks, most of the times I saw this there were very few that had cracks in the limbs.

Call them again on Monday Yeah that is definitely the manufacturers fault. That is not a normal crossbow problem at all. Kmon1 is spot on. The more I looked up Barnett, the more I read about people complaining about their strings letting go. They need to replace your crossbow because there could be hair line cracks in the limbs from it dry firing. They will ask you to send it in so they can look it over but I would insist on them giving you a replacement crossbow or at the least replacing the limbs. Make sure that they pay for the shipping and put a marker mark on the limbs so they don't lie to you and send it back to you with the same limbs after saying that they replaced them. Tell them that you don't feel safe shooting it now. Honestly you could have been really hurt if the limbs broke on it. I wouldn't feel too confident in shooting it after they only replaced the string on it. Hope it all works out for you.

BB1971 I agree with what you all have said and getting behind that crossbow again isn't going to happen. I am just thankful I didn't get hurt! Thanks for all your input my friends.

Thanks. Yeah you were lucky that the limbs held up. I have seen bows explode during 3D tournaments up north during the time that people were really chasing speed out of their bows in the early 2000's. People still chase speed today but they were nuts back then lol. Barnett seems like a reasonable company to deal with so they should have no problem swapping out that crossbow or it's limbs for you. Let us know how you make out with them and have a great day!
