it seems that its a common phrase used when talking about just about any area or when asked a question.

People asking all the time about how the hunting is in random places and invariably if they ask enough people it will pop up "yep, seen the biggest deer I've ever seen over there" but no further description


which begs the question.....when you hear this, what size deer pops into your head? Do you shrug it off, take it with a grain or handful of salt or do you give some validity to the claim?

I've heard this phrase being used by people in areas that won't produce a 140" deer, so its also subjective to the experiences of the person making the comment

People tend to over emphasize most things. Kinda like the other day when I was at the range and this guy says to me " Hey man I don't know if your a bandleader or not but I am and I just shot the best group of my life on target B" I thought cool so when I went down to grab my target I took a peak at his target B and the group was about 4 inches LOL. The same goes with most things like bucks, quail, Taliban.

I pretty much always write it off.

Just like most first impressions when you see a buck on the road or just a glimpse in the pasture is "whoa, did you see that buck" but almost every time ive gotten a better look it turns out to be some cabbage head 8 etc. nothing to write home about, but the mind makes them into mountains with just a glimpse.

Not the biggest so to say but when in Afghanistan and encountering other units operating in different areas they will say something like "Man those Taliban in Wardak fight harder than any I've seen in Afghanistan" or " Man highway one has the best trained Taliban vibe ever seen" in reality they prob aren't any better than any others lol. Its just human nature to try and outdo one another or make it sound like you had it rougher than someone else. Ive seen big deer in multiple regions of Texas but the biggest one I've ever seen was right behind my house in 2007 in Killeen TX,

Or when someone says I was driving down the interstate and had a big ole 12 point run right in front of me and jump a fence, biggest buck ive ever seen. Well how the hell did you count the points while driving 75 and having it running full speed in front of you? LOL

I take heavily into consideration who is talking.

Every bobcat, coyote or bear every seen was a "big ole bobcat, coyote or bear". Every big hog is at least 300 pounds. Every rattlesnake is 6 foot long.

But it WAS the biggest deer I've ever seen there. And YOU, OP, not me, said it was maybe 140.

Biggest Typ I've seen was okla Kansas border. Saw him twice. Went to county court house and basically called every landowner in a 10 section area trying to get permission to hunt okla "side".

Just depends on who is talking. I know people I wouldn't believe if they told me the sky was blue, and I know people I would believe if they told me the sun didn't come up yesterday. Some people just have more credibility than others.

I actually have one shed from each of the 3 yrs before this. Never found them from 2007

I think these are from the two yrs prior to 2007. Hard to tell in the pic of him walking away but he had multiple splits on his tines.
