Howdy!

Tried using search, but could not find the answer so here goes...How do they count permits in cases where more than one person is put on a single application and purchases their permit(s)? In other words, when selecting winners, does the number of permits allowed count towards each individual participating or each application?

I'm curious b/c I got selected for Laguna Atascosa (along with my brother on the application) for a gun hunt and am curious if there will be at most 35 hunters or more because applications like mine included other individuals. Thanks for any answers and insight.

Myself, Son, Son in Law are drawn on Honey Creek SNA. When we paid for the permits it showed each permit with a sequential numbers. May be this helps you with the question.

In the drawings as spots are filled, applications with multiple entries must fit the available spots. I learned this on my Chaparral hunt when they assigned hunt pastures. They allow the choice in the sequential order the permits were drawn. I was last as a single hunter. As the drawing worked through the available spots, there was only one left. The program selected from the single applicants and pulled me. The short answer is there will only be 35 hunters on your hunt.

The standby positions work a bit different. Usually, the hunt manager will fit the entire party. I've seen parties of three and four be drawn when there was only one permit available, but all members of the party were issued a permit. In that standby positions are physically drawn from the drum or bucket, it would be tough to sort through them to fit the need plus everyone has made a journey to attend the drawing. The loudest single moan I've heard from a crowd was at the Chaparral when only one standby position was available, and the first card drawn was a single hunter. The near 200 hunters present had mainly arrived in groups. The fellow running the hunt said, "I'm not going to do that to you, let's draw another spot." That is probably the loudest cheer that I've heard. He drew again, pulling a group of four, and issued them all permits. It didn't affect any of the others on the hunt as far as pressure in that hunters are assigned to a pasture. It only affected the group in their pasture.

You stand a better chance drawing as a single vs. a group. Say you put in as a group and your group size is 4, if your drawn towards the end and there are only 3 spots left you get kicked out and they go for the next application to meet the exact # of spots.

The best chance of getting drawn is for the standby position, must be present to win!
