Seems hogs have a routine about eating, coming to feeders, coming out in wheat field, checking on acorns etc. Do hogs normally return to a certain area to bed down? If I scare up a boar or sounder of hogs at noon, would it be wise to check that same area the next day around noon, or wait 2 days, or just forget that area...?

I've never been able to determine any kind of reliable pattern on our place. One night they'll literally be in the front yard and the next night I'll find them way down in our creek bottom. They just seem to wander aimlessly around our area. Seldom see them in the same place twice. As for where they bed, I just can't say.

Around here I've not been able to establish any kind of predictable pattern of movement. I've got several game cameras out and have tried and tried again to figure out how to ambush them, based on the times I record them on camera. I've had so little luck doing this that I've written off any success I've had to pure chance! Even when I've set up "bait stations" with hog logs, feeders, or post holes filled with soured corn, the timing of their arrival is very unpredictable! I've spent a lot of time sitting in blinds, swatting mosquitoes, feeling the sweat roll down my old body, just "sure" that sometime between 11 and 12 the sounder will come in! Rarely, if ever happens.

Hogs definitely have a routine of being random around here.

Just when you think you have them figured out, they do something else.
And it will change with any hunting pressure or human activity nearby.

I've come to the conclusion that hogs are unpredictable.

Agree. I have them on camera rolling my pig pipe around for hours. Then the next night nothing, and yes the pipe still had corn. They move all the time. For several months they had not been on our place, then they show up and it seems almost every day. I have them on camera in daytime, night, early morning, and late evening. Just not regular to set a clock. I have sat without success, and sometimes I'm about ready to leave then bam out of no where they show. Some times they are not the loud noisy pest and simply appear form nowhere. Then other times I hear them and can ease up on them or wait for them to show. That's why they survive as well as they do.

They usually show up on our place about every 8 - 10 days, then I take one down, they run off, and then come back in 8-10 days. But it might be 2 - 3 days. Just can't ever seem to predict it.

Appreciate the replies. Occasionally when I am brush hogging or checking fences during the day I will scare up a lone boar, usually in the brush areas. I was wondering if it might be worth the time to wait several days then come back and do some stalking in that area.

It can't hurt to try. Since you didn't shoot at him, he probably just considered your presence a disruption of his schedule rather than a threat to his well being. Sweeten the area with a bit of sour corn if you'd like to improve your chances.

This has happened numerous times in different locations over the last 15 years and I am not intent on killing any specific hog/pig. When I was younger I used to walk the property but now day I prefer to ride.

If its been dry around you find a mudhole preferably in thick cover and wait before dark... he will show if not much mud around...

Iv shot at a group of pigs and they came back 10 minutes later to eat around their dead friend laying under the feeder

Hogs are about as predictable as the weather is. Most of the time they scram if they think someone’s there on our place. This morning when I was taking my wife to her bow blind we jumped a big boar and he just stood there. Eventually he just eased off in the brush. If she would’ve had her crossbow ready she could’ve shanked it easy enough.
