What is a rifle like this worth in good condition? Rifle is ceracoated with a 3x9 VXlll fixed 6 and a Mauser action. I also have 50 rounds of hand loads to go with it. A buddy of mine shot it and wants to buy it. I want to charge him a fair price and am not sure what value to put on it. What would be fair? I'm keeping the die set and will reload for him when necessary, which probably will be every few years.

Hard to price it without seeing it or knowing who built it. "custom" Mausers range from bubba'd in the garage to high end Guild built stuff.

It's a quality build. I have no idea who put it together but it's made of quality components with no marks and will shoot 3/4" groups at 100 with the 6 power every time.

Just me but selling it to a buddy I'd probably figure $350 for the barreled action plus 80% of scope and stock retail. Handloads would probably be a gimme, but good 7x57 brass is hard to come by so maybe another $25 in ammo.

Retail on any McMillan stock is $500+. At $750, you're cutting his throat.

You should know adding $500 worth of aftermarket stuff on a gun doesn't add $500 to resale value. The money invested in the aftermarket barrel doesn't add said amount to resale value either. the scope is also worth more sold individually than on the gun.

The guy asked what the value was as a "friend" deal. $900 seems like more of a "normal" deal. hes welcome to list it at $900. doubt it would sell fast in this down market.

I don't know why you can't figure it out. It's not a VX3 just a little older.

I know more than you think I kmow. I peruse another forum where McMillan, and Manners stocks bring 80-90% of retail. Where non-tight wad people understand the value of them.

I also am aware of scopes being worth more seperate, and they do not bring as much attached to the rifle.

I'll repeat myself, at $750, you're cutting his throat.

His $900 tag was already a deal.

Guys on long range forums are paying 80-90% on Mauser sporter stocks?

If he pays $900 for it you'll have your answer.

I can't follow all the back and forth, but I'd say anywhere from $750-1000 is a decent range. JMO.

Put-together rifles do not sell for anywhere near the sum of their individual parts. If those stocks actually sell for 80-90% of their cost used, the rifle is more valuable as parts than as a whole. (Of course, then you have to sell at least 3 different components - which is a pain.)

Here's an idea - maybe offer it to your friend for what YOU have into it or less. If you're into it for $900, see if he wants it for $900 or a little less. If you lucked into it for $500 (or whatever), pass it onto him for that. If he's a good friend, don't over-think it.
I'm still stuck on page 1 trying to figure out what a "3x9 VXIII fixed 6" scope is.

My reading comprehension is fine. It's likely a McMillan sporter Mauser stock, not too many tacticool style stocks out there on Mausers, but it's possible. Your flaw is thinking a group of guys interested in Rem, sav, and tikka pattern tactical or benchrest stocks will pay 80-90% value on anything Mauser.
