Recommended powders ya'll use with 180 grain bullets in the .308? I have several boxes of 180 BT's I like to try out. I currently use the 168 BT with Varget.

Both mentioned above along with H4895 would be top 3 for me. 2000MR gives highest velocity of the 3

I guess I'll leave the H4895 for the light bullets like the 150 to 155 weight, and that leaves me with Varget, MR2000 and IMR 4064 to try. Got them on my shelf. Never tried the 180 BT out of the .308, looks bigger on frontal area compared to the 168's. Possibly try to push them to the 2600 - 2625 fps range. I will have the powder crunch for sure.

Varget has been working well for me with that bullet.

TD, I don't have my notes in front of me for exact figures but was just north of 2620 fps. Case fill is very similar to Varget. Published max velocity is also right in line with 4064 and Varget. With either of those 3 it takes a compressed load to for me to get to 2600 fps

Gonna use a drop tube to lessen the compress load, if needed. I don't like a heavy crunch though. Thanks

I used a drop tube and loaded Winchester brass for the added case capacity. I know a lot of people don't like it, but if you do all the case prep, and sort it pretty tight, cull what needs culled, you can get a consistent batch of cases. Not my first pick but I have done ok with it developing loads.

I think you get more volume with Win brass than Lapua. I use only Lapua though. My average H20 case capacity is 55.48 grains on Quickload.

I run the 200.20x Berger's at 2670fps with H4895 but I may have a longer barrel at 29 in

For getting the powder settled in filling the space in the case I crank up the vibrator tumbler and hold the case against it or use an electric tooth brush to get a more efficient fill on the powder. Never owned the longer drop tube and have those available easily enough.

Yes, I made my own drop tubes before I bought one. They will offer less compression when used. You can gain about 1 to 1.5 grains more. I use a 4" drop tube poured in slowly, and it works fine.
