For the longest time, I've wanted to write about the zen state that archery provides. I know many of you here know this state. It's a state where the mind empties and you actually become the arrow. I attempted to articulate this state. I hope it resonates with some of you here. I know this isn't for everyone but I enjoy making these deer hunting journal entries.

It is well written, for sure, but hunting isn't that deep and sappy. I just don't get it when people try to make it that way.

Always very interesting to see what a different experience everyone get's out of hunting. You're clearly more left brain connected than my knuckle dragging, right brain connection. I do enjoy the disconnect while waiting and the intense, laser focus and concentration that take place waiting for the time to unleash the chaos which ensues from a trigger pull.

Nothing wrong with some reflective time when getting in touch with our primal side. That being said, I feel that some beatnik approval is warranted:

I never got much of a charge out of bowhunting. I see now I'm not philosophical enough.
Watching that video reminded me of a road trip I took with my wife a few years ago to pick up a pup in South Dakota. She talked for 16 hours strait. When the video ended I felt the same relief as when I pulled into the driveway from SD.

I would hate to become the arrow! Most arrows that connect end up covered in blood and slime, stink, and if I missed the target completely I could lay in dirt, poison oak, or under brush and grass and maybe not ever be found, only to suffer being exposed to the four seasons and climate forever. My focus is always on that spot where I want the arrow to strike!
