Do you have any experience with Taurus? They make 1911 and revolvers (even ARs). How’s the reliability, accuracy, fit and finish, the trigger, the customer service, etc.…? How do they compare to Colt or S&W?

I've had a mellinum pro in 45 probably one of the worst triggers I've ever had. Also had a PT92 (beretta copy) it was a jamomatic. Probably will never own another semi auto from them again. It think their revolvers are better though.
IMO they're not even in the same league as Colt and S&W.

If the price is right, they're a great option. I own a Taurus model 85 revolver (2" 38 special) and a Taurus 24/7 Pro DS in 40S&W. Neither have given me a lick of trouble. The ergonomic design on the 24/7 is excellent, and the trigger is very good for a striker-fired pistol. It doesn't jam and just generally never gives me any problems. Same with the revolver.
I have also shot a Taurus 1911 and a PT92, both of which were excellent.
That being said, their prices have gone up recently to where it's not much of a discount from the big names. The only problem there is that they don't have the same resale as the big names. So if you ever need to sell it, you are going to take a hit if you're paying current new prices. But if you plan to keep them, there's nothing wrong with Taurus. I did have one small issue on my 24/7 and customer service took care of me very quickly. Had the gun back in a little over a week repaired for free. I can't remember what it was, but it was pretty minor to the point that I debated not even sending it in.

IMO they're not even in the same league as Colt and S&W. I'm shocked your PT92 was jam-prone. I've shot a couple of those as well as the PT100 (40S&W version), and they were all fantastic. Just as good as the Beretta IMHO.

great guns albeit a step down from colt and s&w but catching up with their new ownership. much better QC now.
still great buy but true on resale value
I think i'll look at their .357 revolvers now since smith and wessons are stupid high right now

It actually fit my hand really well and i prefer the frame safety compared to the beretta's slide safety.

I shoot a bunch of them; pistols in 25 Auto, 32 Auto, 9mm Luger and 45 Auto. I just sold conceal carry revolvers in 357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Mag and 45 Colt. Nothing to do with the revolvers just the recoil of the revolver with these cartridges vs. arthritis that is developing in my hands. I started with the Millenium Pro series of semi-auto, the pistols that have been recalled. I was carrying a Glock 36 (45 Auto), but the stock just bothered my hand. I happened to pick up the 745 and liked it. Same compact size of the 36 but a better fit in my hand. End up, just for fun, buying Mill Pros in 32 Auto, 380 Auto, and 9mm Luger as well. When I was looking at small pistols, I ended up choosing the Taurus TCP over the Ruger LCP. I also looked at the Kel-Tec version, but I do not like the lack of a slide lock on a pistol that I use for self defense carry. Where I found favor with the TCP is that it also locks the slide back after the last round is out, the LCP didn't. I bought TCPs in 32 and 380 Auto. My wife also owns a TCP chambered in 32 Auto. I've owned some other Taurus models and shot many others that friends and family have owned. I also have a Rossi 351 5-shot revolver that is a 2", five shot conceal carry pistol similar to the Taurus 85 (and made by Taurus). I like it, kept it when I sold the other Taurus revolvers. All tallied, I've owned 15 Taurus handguns and still have nine. I've never gotten rid of one without a bit of regret. I've shot tens of thousands of rounds total through them and have had, I think, five warranty claims that Taurus handled without issue. No different than claims that I've had with the other US manufacturers. I design cast bullets, so I do some very in-depth looks into barrel and chambers through chamber casts. I identified two nonconcentric chambers, the chamber slightly off alignment with the longitudinal axis of the bore, and they replace both without question. I can personally assure you that a US manufacturer is going to give the user a lot of grief with this as they think they know better than their customers. Taurus was "if you don't believe it is right, it isn't." I thought so much of the Taurus Millenium Pro 745 (45 Auto) that when it was discontinued in 2015, I bought a new one. It is still in the shipping grease, in its case, in my safe should the first ever fail. These pistols have a lifetime warranty, but they no longer have a 45 Auto in their conceal carry line. It would be replaced with a 9mm Luger or 40 S&W, but I want a 45 Auto. Taurus currently has a rebate on the Model 85 conceal carry 38 Spl: - 2-850021FS
- 2-850021ULFS
- 2-850029FS
- 2-850029ULFS
- 2-850021PFS
- 2-850029PFS
I found some excellent prices through KyGunCo, Buds, etc., but the best price with all the fees was through Davidson's Gun Genie. Locally, I could walk out the door, with the Ultra Lite, all fees/taxes paid, for $211 and then get the Taurus $40 rebate. $171 for a 38 Spl revolver with a lifetime warranty is a crazy price! I was interested in the Ultra Lite as it is 8 oz lighter than my Rossi 351. The trouble is that I become attached to certain firearms and feel that way about my 351. The standard weight 85 could be had for $20 less!

So if you ever need to sell it, you are going to take a hit if you're paying current new prices. But if you plan to keep them, there's nothing wrong with Taurus. I kind of thought the same but really made out on the revolver sale. My 605 357 Mag went for what I bought it for but the remaining three: a 415 41 Mag, M44C 44 Mag, and 450 45 Colt sold for more than I paid for them. Both the 415 & 450 sold very well. Both cost me $400 each, the 415 sold for $500 and the 450 $600. I sell all my firearms through GB. I've sold two semi-autos and they both sold for more as well; a PT25 and a PT945. I bought both new and sold them when production ceased.

Here are my "black" pistols. Wife's TCP is the pink one. My TCPs aren't really black anymore, I bought some colored stocks from Taurus. I also did all the Galloway improvement to the TCP. Just bored and wanted to work with them, they don't really need a thing. My revolvers that I sold. That 450 was a hoss, wouldn't want it stuck in my face!

I'll never buy another Taurus. Their products are cheaply made, and their customer service was not that great.

I'll never buy another Taurus. Their products are cheaply made, and their customer service was not that great. Expected that. The only thing that I don't like about Taurus is that when a model is dropped, they don't provide parts support. So, that is a consideration. To me with firearms at this price point, I don't worry about them as an investment. They are simply a tool. When I buy a hammer or any other tool, I don't worry about selling it. I want it to perform as expected and my Taurus' have.

In 31 plus years, I've had ONE problem Taurus, and it was an owner who tinkered too much... the many others have been fine.
I have the option of several guns, and I like nice Sigs, but there is a place for a stainless concealed hammer lightweight 85 in the arsenal, or two.... they are indestructible, we tried.
Their small guns now, are as good as any in that market. Their customer service has always been first rate for us, the very few times it's ever been needed.
The best shooting revolver I've ever shot, including PPC/race guns, was a Taurus 66, blue 4 inch adjustable sights.... it was crazy.... sold it twice, but it ain't coming back again

Only owned one semi-auto and won't buy another. My first CC gun was a PT111 9mm...after about 100-150 rounds the trigger linkage broke. Got it repaired under warranty but gave it to my brother in law.
Those little TCP's look like a decent pocket gun though, and their revolvers seem to be pretty decent.

I had a Taurus 24/7 pro .40, and I still have a 608SS6 8 round .357 magnum.
The 24/7 went bang every time I pulled the trigger. But I didn't really like the trigger pull and I thought the action felt a little loose. Overall it worked, but I was not impressed. I sold it last year and bought a kimber.
I take the 608 every time I go to the lease, it's been a workhorse. When fired as single action, trigger is good.
I bought both 8+ years ago so they may not be consistent with the quality or prices of product being manufactured today. I haven't shopped around for one lately, but at the time I bought them I felt like they were a good product for the price. I'm still happy with the revolver, but I would not recommend their semi-autos unless they have made some improvements.

Ones I've had didn't like to feed consistently. After seeing a Taurus revolver break into 2 pieces no thanks. They even admitted fault and sent a voucher for anything they made. I wouldn't have trusted it but he got a judge to replace the one that blew to pieces.

How do they compare to Colt or S&W? They don't, but I have to say the little ultra-lite snubbie is worth the money if you just want a reliable pocket pistol that goes bang every time you pull the trigger.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I’m not considering Taurus for self-defense. My EDC is a G26 and my pocket pistol is a Kahr CM9 and I’m not planning to change. BTW that CM9 has been 100% reliable and it’s more accurate than my G26. I was considering Taurus for a range toy. I don’t have a revolver nor a 1911. I’ll probably go with a revolver first. But from the feedback I’m reading here, it seems that it might be safer to go with a S&W revolver. The below video isn’t helping my initial impression.

Couldn't get through a magazine without a jam. Sent it in and I have fired 500 rounds without a jam since. It's my carry piece and I trust it 100%.

Not a whole lot of agencies in the US using Taurus that im aware of. Probably good reason for that. Because the government has tons of money to spend. And if they don't spend enough, their budget is reduced the following year. I don't base my decisions on what people with effectively unlimited budgets decide to spend their money on.
