Does anyone know a person that reloads .458 Socom near the Dallas / Ft. Worth area?

Thanks for the reply. The prices are a little steep compared to what I've found so far. I may get back with you just to try some out sometime.

When you have beast of a round, it's the simple cost of admission to shoot it.
I took a phone call not long ago of a guy who bought a Savage 338 Lapua because he heard that was what he needed to shoot 1000 yards. He was looking for "cheap" 338 Lapua ammo to go shoot 1000 yards. I had to laugh. He didn't research the cost of ammo to feed it before he bought the rifle.
I'm definitely not saying this is your case, I'm just telling a story. But yes, getting started to shoot the 458 SOCOM can be expensive, like any unique caliber. But once you have the brass, you can reload it multiple times for the savings on the 2nd and subsequent rounds.

I appreciate the story, but not the case at all. I was fully aware of the ammo price point prior to ownership. I've purchased ammo in the range of $1.65 to $2.20 per round. I will more than likely try your ammo just to see how it performs and it's consistency. I'm only interested in the 400 grain or higher for subsonic.

Are you shooting a bolt gun or an AR? If an AR, will the subs cycle the action?

458 is very easy to cycle subsonic in an AR. I have an 8" tromix barrel on mine and 15gr of trail boss behind a 405 gr reminginton locks the action back. That was a bolt gun load I used in my other 458. If you want to hunt with a sub the 500gr hollow point from Outlaw State bullets is a great one loaded over some Lil'gun (18.5 grains in mine) The bullets are roughly $1.25, plus $0.80 for a case so you are over $2 per round before you add primer and powder.

If you own a 458 SOCOM and don't reload, you're just burning money. For what it would cost you to invest in a simple set-up to load your own ammo,it would pay for itself in the first year if you shoot much. I had one for several years, and it never had a factory round of ammo in it. Buy the brass directly from Starline Brass, get a set of reloading dies and some reloading equipment.
