Does he have a decent spread or is he narrow? Sometimes narrow bucks look huge from a side view because the main beams are only pushing forward and not out. Either way, he's a heck of a buck for NE Texas.
I think the opposite of theranchers point, I think bucks look more their age because of the good nutrition. I think a lot of bucks were passed on during the drought because people thought they were younger than they really were. It works both ways. End of the day the only way to really tell age is to have a multi year timeline (pictures or observations) of the buck. Deer age differently just like people age differently.

I tried to upload a pic that would give you a good idea of what the spread looks like but the photo didn't want to cooperate I guess.. either that or I'm technologically challenged.. but he has a good spread that goes outside the ears a good ways.. hard to say how wide he his because he's still at a bit of an angle but he's definitely a legal buck.

I don't know how some of you ever shoot a deer. I agree with shooting mature deer, but if a deer is the biggest you've ever seen, you're crazy to give him a year. If I've learned one thing from this forum over the years, it's that a lot of us are really really bad at aging a deer. There are a few who I am sure are the exception, but I've seen guys post a picture and get everything from 2.5-7.5 on one picture. Bottom line is, if you like him, and he gives you that special feeling in your gut when you see him, shoot him. I'd shoot this deer in a heartbeat.

Beautiful deer. I don't know the animals in your area but I would say he is mature. One question. I would think that your camera is over corn or some type of feed. Is that deer in your pictures usually chewing with his mouth open? The two you have of him here looks like he is having a time at it. Just curious. Thanks

Yeah his mouth is open, I got this picture of him here over a mineral site I established, it seems like he's chewing on the bark of the wood that I poured the mineral over

Really pretty deer. Is he missing a brow tine on his right side? The photo with his head down looks like it, but we all know photos can be deceiving.

See I thought the same thing as well that he didn't have a brow tine on that side either but after looking closely it looks like he's got a really small one on that side and it's grown in a strange way.. it almost appears it's grown side ways along his main beam almost.. it's pretty small so it's hard to tell for sure that's what it's doing but yeah he's got one on that side, you wouldn't be able to tell by the pictures on here but on a photo I have of him it's noticeable.
