What are some of the guns that are hard to sell?
I can think of a few:

-Anything in .40 (since FBI went with 9mm)
-Hard to find calibers (like 17HM2)
-Some brands (I’ve heard Kahr drops a lot in value. Not sure why? I have a CM9 I bought new and I absolutely love it)
-Basic Ars (This seems to follow the political climate. Currently the market seems to be saturated)
-Brands that went bankrupt (like the sport division of Colt)

Do you agree with the above list? Can you think of anything else?

I would think the Colt's may be hard to sell now but gain value over time if they no longer are available.

Anything custom or higher end

There's a market for everything just depends on what it is to appeal to the larger crowd. Any true custom rifle will be a hard sell unless you find the person looking for the exact thing. High end 1911's Wilson nighthawk les bear etc have an appeal but not everyone is gonna spend 2k either.

I'm talking about Colt competition. Not Colt's Manufacturing Company (that makes the M4 and still exists).

Selling a used HK pistol for anywhere near it's actual price is next to impossible.

Yup, just like anything else price point is very important. The market for a $1,500 gun is a lot smaller than the market for a $150 gun.

Caliber is important as well. And for me, ARs or anything tactical sells fast.

I've sold a few hunting rifles and the one that took the longest to sell was a 30-06.

Old military rifles that have been Bubba modified. Before he passed away, my next door neighbor gave me a Mosin Nagant carbine that has a synthetic stock, see through mounts, and a cheap Tasco scope. I really appreciated it but that thing is hideous. I took it to a gun show and about got laughed out of the place. I just use it as a loaner hog rifle for when my brother in law comes into town.

HKs and and some Sigs should be easy to sell. Was it a 9mm? I'm thinking you should be able to get 75% of the new price. For example a mint Sig P226 in 9mm would probably sell for around $675 (vs $900 new). I suppose the same rationale would apply to HK.

Glocks are a lot harder to sell now, the XD and M&P come in too much cheaper

High priced custom AR which translates to garage build with high end components
Custom or heavily modified pistols

Seems like everything is hard to sell right now. Market is saturated and there is no panic.

I wasn't expecting this! Who knew... I guess I shouldn't even try to sell my Glock 35 (it's a Glock and it's a .40 cal!)

Guess it's just time to hold on to them till the next panic. Hopefully that doesn't come. Been thinking of selling my Ruger M77 Bi-Centenial #57 of 500, 7x57 Mauser. I've had it since 1976 and it is a 98. But then again, maybe not.

It may be hard to sell something at the price you want, but anything that's priced right will sell. The size of your target market can really make a big difference, though. Selling locally on THF, you might have a hot item and get your price easily...or you might have something that's *not so hot* and have to discount it heavily. Items like that are best marketed nationally using Gunbroker or some such tool. At least this is the way I see it.

Agree with price and item. Lot of items for sale are like the farmer that parks a tractor by the fence and puts a "for sale" sign on it. He is asking double for the tractor and will discount it for the "Green Acres" guy from the metroplex. He isn't going to spend a penny trying to sell it, and doesn't care if it sells. Same thing with many guns for sale through THF. Start charging for ad space and items will drop by 50%. Regarding item, I remember the later '70s when everyone wanted the Beretta 92s, you couldn't sell a 1911 or 6-shooter.

I'm not much on selling guns since I bought them because I wanted them in the first place but I have learned a few things observing others.

I'm not going to say stay away from customs since one can purchase a whole lot a rifle at a reduced price, just remember that you'll rarely get back what you put into them.

I will say stay away from plastic, while they can perform flawlessly and have the durability of their steel counterparts they drop value faster than a new Cadillac.

Stick with long time name brands such as Colt, S&W, Winchester, Remington, Browning and even Ruger if your concerned about a return of investment. Some Euro brands would also make my list with Sig's being at the top.

Now with that said I also have two what I call junker pistols which see allot of carry time and that's a 380 Keltec and a Taurus Model 85 Ultra-lite, both I got specifically for conceal carry and they work perfectly during the warmer months. Both just drop into the front pocket of a pair of cargo shorts. They're ugly, they're cheap but they're damn sure reliable and that's all I wanted. My Colt pistols are the only ones that continue to gain value with the others gaining some or at least holding in value.

The things that amuse me when it comes to gun sales:

1) Custom ARs - if i can buy all the same crap parts you did and cobble together an AR, its not custom. Its a frankenAR.

2) Unrealistic Prices - if i can buy it cheaper brand new why would i want your used gun for the same or higher price?

3) Battle Worn paint jobs - stupidest thing ever first of all. why would i want a gun that looks like a piece of crap that has and never will see battle.

4) Bed Pics - take the 5 minutes to snap pics of ur guns in the garage, kitchen counter, table, floor, anywhere. nobody wants to see the flowered pillows and comforter ur wife picked or the pee stained sheets/mattress from ur bachelor pad.

Yea customs are actually pretty easy to sell just needs to be somewhere like longranghunting or snipers hide where the majority of memebers know what they're looking at. THF is tough for any high end items

Rifles chambered in wildcat cartridges.
If ammunition can't be bought at the local gunshop it will be hard to sell even if brass and reloading dies are included.

European cartridges- I bought a near new CZ 550 with brass and dies for $300 because it was in 9.3X62.
The dealer said I was the first person who didn't drop it like a hot potato when I read the caliber.

True... I picked up a 6x45mm Cooper that was unfired with rings for a steal back a couple years ago as nobody knew what it was at that store.

Pretty much sums it up. And definitely higher end items are hard to move here.
