I actually like Spanky's more now than I did while I was at school there. I happened to marry a Tech girl (we didn't meet until after graduation)and she got me to go try Spanky's again as it was one of her favorites and I'm glad she did. Cheese Sticks are a must and my go to burgers are the bacon cheese and the green chile. Lubbock actually has a ton of good Mom and Pop places all over town.
Pizza/Calzone: One Guy from Italy or Capital Pizza
BBQ: Evie Mae's
Mexican: Montelongos or Jaliscos
Bar Food: Caprock Café
Italian: Orlandos or Italian Garden
Wings: Twisted Spigot
Breakfast The above mentioned Mexican food places or Lubbock Breakfast House for country cooking
Home Cooking: Cast Iron Grill

Home Cooking: Cast Iron Grill I concur....I'd shank somebody for a One Guy's Calzone or some fried cheese from Spanky's.

I miss me some one guy's lunch special, I think it was a calzone and a drink for $6.
Spanky's fried cheese will kill you but it's worth it, so are the fried mushrooms.
We used to crush Jalisco's No. 19 on Q(Hwy 84), cheap and didn't care about looking at the ID.
I remember the mafia queso at Orlando's being pretty good.
When I go back I always get at lease one Cadillac margarita and an order of green chile nachos at Chimys.

Split a burger so you have room for the fried cheese and shrooms.

Spankys is a stripclub
Just saying.
Not sure about their burgers, but their meat is enjoyable to watch.

The cheese sticks are good but burgers are very mediocre. There are much better burgers in town and you don't have to go by campus to eat at them either.
Best breakfast is easily the Pancake House and its also one of the best places to eat period.

Knew the original owners (friend of a frat brother) back in the very early 80's when I was @ TTU. Just a basic sandwich shop back then and it was darn good! Heard they are still going strong. Definetely worth a try!
