5 of them were sunning around one of my containers this morning. Was able to relocate 3 of them, 2 went back under before I could get them. Only have a pic of these 2. All are 4'+ and as big around as a coke can. Have to watch for the others and relocate them.

Just out of curiosity, I don't know anything about snakes, is there any harm to kill and eat a couple? As in rattle snake population affects. I never have, would like to try it though.

There are 8 species of rattlesnakes in Texas. Some of them are federally protected. The western diamonback is the most common in most of the state and their numbers are strong. It wouldn't affect the population at all to eat a few, as long as you can identify them and you're not killing a protected species.

Checked the container about 2 hours ago and there were 4 in behind some wire and gates, couldn't get to them. So that makes at least 7 Rattlers. Few minutes ago I checked again and didn't see the Rattlers but I saw this big Coachwhip were they were laying.

That will make them haul azz. Coachwhips eat rattlers.

Indeed. I hate when they are around an area with people, especially kids, and we have to kill them. I am not the kind of person that will take any chances with a rattler. I might should learn how to handle them, but anything that can kill me, tends to get the business end of a shotgun, Judge, hoe, T-post, shovel or whatever is handy. If they are out away from folks, they get a pass.

If it's close to where you're hunting and there is a chance you could stumble into while in the field, yes. I have enough to sacrifice a few. Have seen about 20 so far this year. But only Rattlers, can't shoot Coachwhips or Rat snakes at all.

That's good to know. I'd probably get barred otherwise. roflmao

I've killed 3 in 60 years. 1 I was stepping over dove hunting, 1 that was crawling underneath my pickup while I was in the back filling deer feeders and one at the bottom of my buddy's tripod stand in bow season. He couldn't get down and said it was 6' long. 3' was closer to accurate. wink

Where I live cotton mouth's are plentiful and IMO meaner than a rattler. Where I hunt we have rattlers, not near as plentiful as cotton mouth's around the house and not as confrontational. I believe the pigs keep the rattler population down where I hunt. I kill 100 times more pigs than rattlers, only had to take one out in 8 years, it was behind the freezer on the camp porch about 2ft from the main entrance door in December, go figure.

Never knew there were that many species. Good info.

Ever been chased by a coachwhip? If so you won't be as much afraid of rattlers, even though they are not poisonous a snake that chases you is pretty freaky.

Snakes get a pass from me, There could be an exception as I have Timbers and moccasins on my property. But would have to be a threat
