I have narrowed my choices to these three scopes for a .243:
- Leupold VX1 3x9x40 $165....this was to my eye the clearest in this price range at Academy. Could tell no difference in the store between it and a VX2.
-Bushnell Elite 3500 3x9x40 $169 with 25% rebate. Have not found one to look through but have a 3200 and have been satisfied. Have used warranty one time on binoculars and they were awesome in my experience.
-The old style Weaver Grand Slam 2x10x40 reduced to $150. Have read nothing but good reviews but have not found one to look through.
Just looking for opinions on these three to help with the decision.

Can't go wrong with a Gold Ring.

Any of those are good inexpensive scopes. You said you like the Leo why not go with that? As a bonus it's made in the USA.

Go with what you like. The Opinions will go everywhere. Of those I'd choose the vx1 or save and spend a little more on better.

VX1 is a great choice. You picked three of the best in that price range. Maybe the three best.

I like the VX1 and the price. But the Bushnell would be in the $120 neighborhood after rebate. This model Grand Slam used to go for $400 back in the day and was considered on par with higher end scopes. So its all got me flip flopping.

Grand Slam. 2-10 is better than 3-9, and it's the most scope for the money.

That is kind of my thinking too. I was hoping someone would talk me into the Weaver. What will i do with my free time once i buy one? I love to research things to death before i buy.

Well, the ammunition to use should keep you occupied on the research front. It's the biggest topic on the THF. smile

You can join the rest of us in arguing which is more effective, the .308 or the .30-06. Or maybe it was whether the .25-06 was better than the .270. Or maybe it was whether the 6.5 Creedmoor was better than a .270. Or maybe it was why the 7mm-08 was better than the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Anyway, you get the point.

wink

Bought a Weaver Grand Slam and returned it. Looked like crap next to the Leupolds. I have no experience with the Bushnells, but lots of experience with Leupolds...so Im biased..... whistle

Ordered the Grand Slam. Seems like a good gamble to take.

No joke....

OP: I don't think you could go wrong with any of the options you listed. Hope you like the weaver!

I received the Weaver Grand Slam and have it mounted on a model 7 .243. Optically, this is the best scope I have owned. So far I have to say you cannot go wrong for 149.99. Have not shot it yet so can't speak for that yet.

Any of those are good inexpensive scopes. I like VX. But, you should choose scope you like.
