Got out to the lease and did some feeder work on my new deer pen, filled up my pig pipes (one apparently became a cow pipe based on game pics, frown ) and checked out my pig barrel (30 gallon plastic water barrel) I put out a few weeks ago. Some activity, but not much as something chewed a hole in the side of it the size of a baseball. Going to look for something metal about the same size.

I picked up a couple of Pig Bombs sprays (Buck Bomb for hogs that has a sweet/strawberry scent) at Academy on clearance for about $2 a couple months ago and thought I would try one. The feeder/pipe were upwind of me so I sprayed the ground around them, bushes stc. Couple hours later after dark this sounder pops out coming out of the corner to my side. I thought I had lots of time to get ready, pick one out, etc.

Look at this video how just about everyone of them is sniffing out the air, then turn and high tail it back to where they came from. It wasn't me as I'm in a box blind downwind of them. All I can think of is that Hog Bomb was very unsettling to them for some reason. Won't be using that again..

Next field over held another group of 20-25. Odd thing was they were way spread out and not mostly bunched up like normal. Followed them into yet another field where this boar, left the pack on a determined mission to go somewhere. Had to finally take my shot as I was about to have some oilfield equip behind him. Check out the "poof" when the round contacts.

The other shots were pretty good distance, 250+, thought I would give it a try, still had rounds in the mag. smile Tried to clubhouse a pair (2 skeet targets with one shell) at around :43 , that would have been a great video shot! smile It's nice to have these videos to re-live the hunt, but you also have to re-live your shooting. I really enjoy the on the run shots, just need to settle down and think about the shot (lead/holdover) before squeezing one off. Wish these would have been a little closer. Decent size boar, nothing really special.

Good observation and observational video. While hogs may like the scent and may even develop an attraction to it, the fact that it is something strong, new, and out of place is taken as being not right by some groups. Even hogs know when something new may be too good to be true.

Good hog down! Nice vid.

Looks fun, still have yet to sight in my XP38, too busy the last couple weeks. Our lease has been untouched for most of the year so hopefully I'll get on some groups like that once I can take time off. I assume you were shooting from a tripod or shooting stick? Great video and story.

Yes, first time I used one, Primos tripod. While I really like my rifle setup, it's 14lbs as you see it. Tough to shoot unsupported for any length of time. It's hard to slow down, get the tripod out, set it up, etc vs spot and shoot! Patience Obi Wan... I'm gettin' there.

Charlie

It's just so damned hard for me to justify that much money for something I get to do so seldom. Let alone getting the nod from the wife. Took me months to get a suppressor and that was only $1k.

My scope and monoculars were all used, good deals are out there, just have to be pretty maniacal about looking and I did a bit of trading up to get here.

Do like I did, tell you wife who the boss is and just hope she doesn't find out if you buy something! smile

Stupid direct deposit and damned internet makes it impossible for me to buy without her knowledge. I'll just have to butter her up.
