Thinking about going tankless. Anyone know anything about them? Good or bad?

This seems to come up every few months.
Gas or propane yes.....electric no.
Noritz, rinnai and navien are the only brands I would buy right now. Do not forget about special venting, condensate, possibly increasing your gas line, re-routing water, t&p....etc.
If you have an existing tank style gas unit, look in to the Noritz EZTR series.

Curious why you wouldn't do an electric tankless unit? I've got two new 50 gal electric units and I've thought about it but haven't put any effort into researching it yet.

My house all electric. I haven't seen anything bad about electric ones.

The electrical ones aren't worth putting in house, really no cost savings.

Have a gas one in the house. It works well but takes awhile to get the hot water to you. Never have run out of hot water yet. If the place is large enough, and you can afford it, you might consider having 2 of them installed. Friend of mine did (on opposite sides of the house) and he gets hot water quicker. That is a good bit of money to spend for having to wait about 20 to 30 seconds for water to get warm.

How about just buy a recirculation pump and put a water heater. They run $200 and work excellent and are easy for a average homeowner to install, I have my Water Heaters in the attic, and it a long run to my kitchen. I have instant hot water there. In the winter it could take over a minute to get warm, and in summer about 20 seconds.

The fact that it takes a while to get hot water to said fixture has nothing to do with heater.....

Not to mention all of the upgrades to panels, breakers, wire size and in some cases, actual transformers at the street. If you are needing a small electric tankless to run ONE sink and shower, there are a few on the market better than others.

Pay attention to the internal piping dimensions. I installed one once which has 1/2" inlet and outlets, not 3/4". The internal piping, where the coils were, was even small diameter than that. Really cut down on water flow and pressure on the hot side, but it was a cheap unit from Lowes.
I think all tankless heaters work best on faucets that have two separate hot and cold valves. Open the hot to keep the flow rate up and the unit on, then adjust temp with the cold faucet.

I haven't seen anything bad about electric ones. 80 gallon HEAT PUMP waterheater is the way to go - costs 1/3 to run, and Free air-conditioning for your garage (or whereever its located). 10 year warranty Unit cost is high (up front), but requires NO electrical or plumbing changes. A no-brainer if you know how to get 'a deal' on one. will pay for itself fairly quickly here in texas. tip- do NOT go with a 50gallon version - it's a bit cheaper, but it won't 'keep up' the way the 80gal does; read the feedback on them ....

If you go this way....look at the Bradford White Aerotherm.....you have a dealer in Sulphur Springs.
