Took 2 of my dogs in for rattlesnake booster shots Monday before last. Pointer had a large lump show up yesterday at the the sight of the injection. I've seen this reaction before on others dogs of mine, but don't recall it happening 8-9 days after injection. Anybody ever see this before? I'll call the vets office tomorrow

Have had several dogs with lumps forming at sight of the injection. All gone within a week or so. The down side is a cyst forming. Never had that happen. Mine always showed up with in 3-5 days so day 9 is unusual I guess. If it feels hard I would go to the vet.

My vet said can take up to two weeks. It happened to my newest pup two weeks ago.

I'm out of town this week, wife sent the pic. Says dog is acting normal, lump is not painful. I'll call the vet in the morning, I'll be home to look at it Friday afternoon. Thanks for the replies

Happened to my male pointer. I took him back in and they drained it. His lump was huge though, otherwise I probably would've just let it go down naturally.

Well the lump is getting smaller, so I'm not that concerned. Other dog that got one has just a peanut sized lump, but can't be seen through the longer hair

My vet told me some dogs have that reaction when they get their first vaccination shot.

The Britt had the peanut sized lump, had to feel around to find it under the hair. She's had a large one before, but it was closer to the time the injection was given. This is the second injection the pointer has had.

Just a idea about timing. My vet says it takes about 30 days for the dog to get full benefit from the booster. And the shot is giving the best protection for 4 to 6 months. Because of this I always get my dogs on a schedule that has the booster given in late September. This way I get the best protection during the season, some folks even get a booster twice a year.
