Been a few weeks since I last hunted my place. Checked cameras Thursday after putting out some corn and Wild Hog. Got back to the office and looked at the cards... zero. Absolutely no activity other than possums and raccoons. Prospects didn't seem to favor me but, it had been a long week and I needed to get out.

Armed with my Gamo and sons AR I hit the river bottom at about 7pm. By 11pm I had thinned the corn stealers by three and was thinking about calling it a night.

I started gathering my gear and see that the light is triggered again. Thinking it's another raccoon about to meet it demise, I picked up the Gamo. Looking through the scope I am delighted to see a pair of pigs that went directly to the post hole of goodness. I quickly exchanged weapons, picked out the biggest and domed her between the eyes. DRT.

Sons gun finally tastes some pig blood.

I'm glad you trusted your instincts and hunted despite the game cam evidence - you got you a nice reward !

The flip side has also played out before. Five days of solid footage, hunt in the 6th and zippo. Can't kill em if ya don't go. But, that's why I take the Gamo now. I feel like a grade schooler again plinking away. And by plinking away I mean, shooting the pellet gun... lol

Sure, the only thing predictable about hogs is that they are unpredictable!

Pig_Popper and I had a similar experience last night with a hog that had been absent for 3 days. Not only did he show up, but he showed up hours earlier than when he had been showing up.

Good job on the kill!!

Nice!
I've been thinking more and more about taking 2 rifles to the stand when hunting pigs.

I hate to waste 120gr SST hand loads on corn thieves!

Congratulations and good job on sticking it out. Sometimes just when you think things aren't going to happen, they DO!

My scenario last night was just the opposite of yours. I had hogs coming in every day about dark.

Stand is about 40 yards from bait site. Got on stand about 5:30, didn't see anything but squirrels until dark. At dark a group of 4 raccoons showed up, but no hogs!

So I am sitting there watching the raccoons munch on the corn. It was almost 10:00 p.m. and I was giving serious thought to calling it a night. Butt was hurting from sitting in a ladder stand for so long.

At one point I was looking at the raccoons through my scope and 3 of the 4 were all 'lined up'.

Man...that was a tempting shot...but I resisted. Good thing too, because a few minutes later they all scattered and ran up trees. So I knew something was coming. Probably the hogs. Sure enough the hogs rushed in under the light and bunched up to feed on the corn I had placed in a post hole and spread around.

Waited for a couple to get side by side so I could take a 'Two-Fer' shot. It wasn't long before that opportunity presented itself. Pressed the trigger on my SOCOM and sent a 540 gr. hard-cast their way.

Two 80-90 lb. Sows dropped right there. My job was done. But I would have missed the opportunity if I hadn't waited a just bit longer before giving up.

Keep after them...and again Good Job!

Hear Ya!

When I go to my Box Blind...I take my 458 SOCOM and .17 HMR for just the same reasons.

Had my youngest daughter with me Sunday night. I put her on the Gamo. She enjoyed the heck out of letting it fly on those corn stealers.
