For years I've heard and read that Pecan Lodge is the BBQ joint to beat in Dfw. I finally made it there today for lunch. 1lb brisket, .5 lb burnt ends, jap cheese sausage, mac n cheese, and 1 rib. This is my normal trial spread for a new to me place. This was the highest price per lb I have paid as well. As for my experience today I now find it highly overrated on everything tried. The jap cheese sausage was probably the best thing going but I'm not a fan of sausage for the most part. I only bought it to try. I can't even put this in my DFW top 3

Went there once. I thought it was good Q. I've had better a few times, but I can certainly see where it gets its reputation.
That said, I am not one for standing in a long line to pony up a small fortune just to eat. So I doubt I'll make it a point to go back anytime soon.

Been there a couple of times with a group of guys from work, it was Great both times. Favorite is the Beef Ribs, they are to die for All of the other meats we had were very, very good! The sides were excellent we always get the fried okra, mac & cheese and beans. Yest it is $$$, but worth it. BP I will try Slow Bone NP we never stand in line, go to the express register it is pretty quick but you have to have a minimum order of meat I think its 5lbs?

We used to have a hole in the wall here in Corsicana that had truly some of the best BBQ in the state - cheap too. I'm not a pauper but that place spoiled me. Still hard for me to drop big $$$ for BBQ.

Texture and firmness , over smokiness that stayed with me until the night causing gross burps, sausage was greasy but had flavor from the japs, rib was just meh. Wasn't over impressed with the mop glaze on some things, bark wasn't that good. Bark was soggy. Mac n cheese was just Mac n cheese.
Overall it wasnt bad but for the hype I wasn't impressed. The pricing was only a $1 or so more a half lb. I was first in line in fear of having to wait a long time. I wanted a beef rib but not $23 a lb. I may go again but if it's way better I would have to include inconsistencies in my review.

Used to go to the Saltlick in Driftwood 30 years ago for the same reason.....great "Q", fair price, hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere...super friendly people and fantastic atmosphere...then all the prics in Austin started going there....went and got all uppity and yuppiefied......I won't be back....prefer to enjoy the memories of good times once had.....

Found myself at Pecan Lodge yesterday and have to say your review was spot on. I was extremely disappointed. Haven't been there since they were at the old farmers market location but it was excellent then, and only average yesterday. Here's to hoping it's only a temporary hiccup

Ask for the brisket tamales, they aren't on the menu.

I was a little disappointed with Pecan as well. Especially with all the hype about it. I'll take a hole in the wall spot anytime over some of these big places that are over hyped.

I haven't eaten there since December, but I have never had a bad meal at Pecan Lodge. I love barbecue and quite often take road trips with family or friends to try barbecue all over the state and the only places I like better than Pecan Lodge are Snow's in Lexington and Franklin in Austin. As far as DFW BBQ goes, I would rate Pecan Lodge several steps above the likes of Cattleack BBQ, Lockhart Smokehouse, 18th and Vine, Slow Bone, Meet U Anywhere, and Hutchins. Hutchins is probably my second favorite of all the contenders and Slow Bone is probably #3, but in my opinion, Slow Bone has gone downhill in the meat department some since Jack Perkins sold it last year, but they still have great sides. Here is a spread from Pecan Lodge that me and 4 buddies tore up not too long ago.
