Sorry to say is closing the doors. The Deer processing is going to stay open. The grocery store and meat market are selling out to the United Grocery store next door. Going to miss the meat market for sure.

My grandfather Ray bought this store in 1974. It's been a part of me my whole life. I have helped with the store and processing side a good part of my life over the years. It was a hard decision. One I'm still struggling with but my Uncle Lee made the right decision. Every since Super Walmart opened it has been tough for him. Our deli/sausage we are known for will be incorporated across the street at United. My Uncle will be working with them on the transition. David Easley will be running the processing as usual in our existing building. Its been a great run. I'm sure my grandfather would be proud to see what the store has accomplished over the years. Gonna be hard though to not see it open anymore.

I will never forget the story of the hunters that shot a deer and took it to Ray's to get field dressed and processed. They were in a hurry because the Cowboy's game was coming on later and they didnt have time to do it in the field. So when they went inside to talk to somebody, the deer jumped out of the truck and ran down the street...? anyone remember that?

Skeeter, I am glad for your family. Every AM I drove to the lease, the carport was occupied with I assume your uncle there at 5am. I certainly hope he can enjoy life. Will look forward to supporting the processing end. The Jalapeno Snack Stick is worth the price of admission. Take care ! 4W

I went to a seminar the other day hosted by Tyson. They are predicting that soon, within 10 years, all Grocer store meat counters will be full of Walmart meat. I was sitting there thinking about all the difficulties of hiring qualified market people and all the regulations being forced on us by the feds. It is these public corporations such as Tyson and Walmart that are forcing all these restrictions and regulations on small family owned business like ours to force us out of the market by pencil whipping us into submission. I for one am going fight them to the last. They can take their pre-cut, pre-packed, chemical laced $hit and stuff down their own throats. As long as we are in business we will take pride in our Meat Markets and our Market staff. I'm sorry that you guys had to make a change, every time an independent grocer leaves the market it hurts the rest of us.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

Over the years we stopped there quite a few times, hate to admit it, but old age made us stop making the trips several years ago.

That's too bad. I always dropped in to get meat on my way home from West Texas and NM.
