Hi all. Won a shotgun at a DU banquet and am looking to trade a guy at work for his AR-15. I dont know much about AR but have always wanted one. What do yall think? The trade value of the shotgun is about 1200-1300. Fair?

Excellent trade. I'd be carrying the AR home.

What was the shotgun? A Fausti, some DU guns have quite a following. If it's a Benelli it might be worth more but that AR looks pretty nice. I would learn something about the company that makes the AR. Are they reliable, good shooters etc???

Yes - the DU gun is a Fausti o/u.

Looks like good trade...give the Wolf ammo away and buy better! Hold it if thats SSA ammo keep it and have good time learning your AR!

If it's what you want and you like the AR, you can't go wrong. It's a frakengun, so resale will be a little harder, but didn't appear that he skimped on quality.

Mag Tactical System constructs them out of a proprietary magnesium alloy and also uses a proprietary coating process to protect their lowers from corrosion.

So they aren't billet aluminum. They try to save weight by going with magnesium alloy, but they sacrifice strength.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I wouldn't personally trade a $1200 shotgun for a frankengun AR, but that's just me. It's always harder to sell multi-brand ARs.

The Crossfire Vortex scope is way on the low end as far as scopes go. The gun itself is only a $500 gun with a bunch of add-ons, which do make the gun easier to sell but don't add to the sale price.

Personally, if I wanted an AR, I'd sell the shotgun for $1000-$1200 and buy a $600-$800 AR that's one brand. But that's just me. I don't think your trade is "bad", but I also don't think you could sell the AR for as much as you could sell the shotgun for if you're right that it's worth $1200-$1300 in trade.

Not me. A 600 AR is gonna come with crap mil spec trigger, crap rail, crap stock, and looks like crap compared to this gun posted. Unless your buying from Colt or a major name with multiple pistol lines, rifles, shotguns most ARs are franken guns. They don't make their own lowers, uppers and barrels. They buy the parts, assemble them and slap their brand name on them.

You can get a Colt for $800-$900 and still be a few hundred ahead compared to this deal.

I had ARs from DPMS and RRA several years ago. If they had crap stocks and crap rails, it made no difference to me. Both were shooters. The DPMS cost about $550 and the trigger was fixed with a $40 bill springfield trigger job. The RRA was $900 and a really awesome-looking firearm (Tactical Operator 2 I think was the model). Had a great trigger, free-floating rail, comfortable stock, etc.

Completely agree... Exactly what I was wanting to say but didn't know how to say it without maybe sounding rude to the OP. Sell the shotgun for 1000-1200 and buy a colt, slap a CMC trigger in it, buy you a Seekins 15" rail, and spend the rest on ammo. Boom better gun with better resale value, will have the same look as this gun, and you'll probably be able to get around 500 rounds of ammo to go with it.

Lol you wouldn't give more for a Colt factory gun with a quality rail and trigger over a frankengun with a sub par lower?

He was in a bind for a sporting clays tourny this weekend and needed my gun, so he ended up throwing in 6 mags, a really nice bag, and 600 rounds of ammo (and let me try it out at his place that has a 100 yrd range). My shotgun has been posted on multiple sites for $1200 and I've only had one lowball offer - so I went for it! I Shot it this weekend and am very happy with the trade. Thanks for all the advice on here fellas.
