Put out a new protein feeder at the end of February and have yet to have a deer eat a bite. I put it inside my 11 panel deer feeder pen and deer are coming to the corn, but they haven't touched the protein. Other protein feeders on the lease are getting hit...should it take this long? Not panicked, but surprised.

Have you mixed some corn in with protein? Also try spraying inside tubes with apple scent and turn corn feeder sling time way down

I put in a 1000 lb protein feeder last spring. Mixed a little corn with the protein but they didn't touch if for about 2 months. One by one I started getting pics of single deer hitting it then all of the sudden I couldn't keep it full. Be patient, once they figure it out they will chow down on it. I now feed year around and added another protein feeder to my place. They are not hitting it heavy currently due to it being nice and green due to some good rain on my place. During the heat of the summer and winter they will hit it hard again I'm sure.

Yep, I've noticed a definite slow down on mine too. Happens every year about this time if we get rain. They'll be back on it mid to late June.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

What brand protein? How high are your feed ports?
If your range is in good condition, they wont eat much of it.
It's hell eatin em live

A) mix corn with protein. B) turn off your corn feeders. C) watch deer eat protein
How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

Plus with all the forage these days for the rain, they are happy with natural vegetation in a lot of areas. They'll find it!

If you are tired of waiting and it looks like you won't have rain in a few days, pour a bag of protein on the ground,by the feeder, add in a bag of corn, turn the corn feeder off, and they will at least get a taste of it. If it looks like rain within 48-72 hrs, hold off.

Be careful with putting corn in the protein feeder itself. I have seen coons dump 100 lbs of protein on the ground to find one kernel of corn.

Don't worry. Our deer are used to eating protein and it can still take them 2 to 4 months to discover and start using a new protein feeder. It's like they have to learn where to look after watching others do it. But, once they get going they will hammer it, especially in Summer and Winter.

When I started back in 2002 with protein, I put a corn feeder inside the pen with the protein feeder for about a month. They took to the protein right away.

I watch the hiways . When I don't see deer feeding along the hiways it tells me there is plenty to eat in the woods. Later in the dry season the deer will hit the feeders. During the 2010-2011 drought I was putting out sheep & goat blocks as well and could not keep enough out there.
There's only 2 seasons in a year. Deer season and getting ready for deer season.
