Shot some hogs yesterday, all boars. This one strapped in at 325#. In the very center of the photo, you might can see the bullet hole. It's at the base of the neck, just in front of the shoulder. Range was about 50 yards. Cartridge was .223. He dropped at the shot and kicked twice.

Dang nice kill.
My best was 150 yards on a 255 pound sow, also 223, she dropped where she stood.
Good job CK. cheers

Good Job!

The folks that seem most set on carrying on this notion that a .223 can't drop a pig are the folks who wish to disprove it. I don't know where folks are ever hearing that a .223 can't kill a pig. I have never seen it posted and never heard anyone saying, unless they are refuting it. I have seen many folks say it isn't the best of choices, not the absolutist claim that it can't kill a hog.

People kill hogs with pellet guns, .22 subsonic, and .17 hmr. It is silly to carry on this myth by trying to refute what nobody is arguing and certainly nobody was arguing it here.

The OP did a good job of placing the bullet where it needed to go. Outstanding!

^^^^^^ Just go over to TexasBoars, it hasn't been too many years ago...they would ban you for suggesting the .223 would/could cleanly kill pigs. They've changed their minds since then...but it used to be taboo there.

I use what ever is in my hands at the time. Close enough and clear a .22 in the ear will drop one also. I use a .223 quite often. I have also dropped several large hogs ( boars and sow ) with the .223. My rules of engagement are " see pig, have gun, shoot at the pig, letting pig know he is not welcome on the farm ".

.223 aim rifle

Nice hog. My best was 120 yards on a 250 pound sow with a .22 mag.
That is a great hog, but he is funny looking. Congratulations on getting him.

I've been using the Sierra TMK 77 grain in this rifle for about 9 months now. It's very accurate and has accounted for lots of hogs. No problems at all so far. I was using the Swift Scorroco 2 in 75 grain previously and it was great at twice the price. I like these bullets very much.

Big ol ugly hog! Good work and nice shot!

Fast paced gregarious society forgets the healing power of solitude. It's worked thousands of years. Casting a line/gazing into a campfire/sitting in a blind after a long week is medicine for the soul. The serenity and peacefulness of it all is majestic.

Nice boar. It always work when you put it in the right spot. If you gut shot him I doubt you'd have found him.
