I'm about to redo our back patio and wanting a nice GRILL set in the counter I will be building. My son will be welding me up a nice off sett smoker and I don't want to grill in the smoker. So is the BGE as good as there is or are there others just as good, equal or better? I have a basic Weber and like it but looking for alternatives.

I have the Kamada Joe and it holds at temp all day. I've seared steaks with it, beer can chicken.I've got a gas grill right next to it. I've no experience with any other smoker for disclosure. It was 2/3's of the price of the BGE.

My dad got a big green egg probably 12-15 years ago now. As far as I know he's never replaced a thing not even the grate. If I could afford one I'd go that route. Other good options out there as well but first hand this one has been great. I'd bet it gets used 3-5 times a week since day one.

Part of me likes the Primo design better, but I've no experience.

Only eggsperience I have is with the BGE and I really like it. Only thing I have replaced on mine in 4 years is the gasket and that was less than $10.

You couldn't really go wrong with either. I am a now a believer. We have a large which is enough for 2-4 people no problem. But if you have the space I would go with the XL. It is nice to have left over space.

What about one of the Outdoor Gourmet ceramic cookers at Academy? Is it worth it to pay $600 for one or just spend a few hundred more for a BGE or Primo?

Unless I'm missing something BGE or Primo will be a lot more than a few hundred more than Academy stuff. Vision has a grill I'm looking at . $675 or so at Home Depot.

Primo Jr is $865 without cart and large BGE is $850 without cart. Now, Primo wants like $500 for their table and $200 for their version of a nest. Same for BGE. So it does run about $400 more with a set of wheels. It will have a better warranty and Primo is US made. I just don't know how often the warranty is needed.

We use the Kimoto Joe and love it. It's also great to use the stone and make wood fired pizzas with.

Kamado Joe is a grand delivered and it comes with stand, deflection stones, and grill rack. I wouldn't get the small of anything. Biggest issue with Kamado grills is lack of grill space.
