The ads are totally out of control on that link. I don't know why they don't list the top 9 or the top 11 cartridges. This obsession with the number ten is just out of control ... That out of the way, the list is skewed to flat shooting western cartridges, a couple of which are niche cartridges at best. Yawn.

Lame article. 4 '06 cartridges on the list? 2 6.5s? 28 Nosler? I'm taking crazy pills...

Gotta wonder what the author's definition of "top" is.

I was amazed that the .308 and the 7mm-08 weren't listed.

Gotta wonder what the author's definition of "top" is. Me too. I've never met someone who hunts with a 6.5-284 or a 28 nosler. Only know one guy who uses a .280 AI. Same goes for the 6.5 creedmoor. In my humble opinion, it was a pointless article written only to meet a deadline.

I don't have a violent reaction against it. It had most of the obvious contenders plus a couple so many rave about I have to believe they are good rounds. These "top 10 lists" really just have one purpose: to get attention and debate going. At least .223 wasn't in there......
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

What's popularity got to do with his opinion of what the best are? Was that a part of his criteria?

Well its his opinion, I agree on a few disagree on a few.
What is the def of big game is debatable also. Are white tails and Mule deer big game by his definition?
Honestly I would have a hard time picking a top ten big game rounds. If deer size game are included then it would be much easier.
The 300 wm, 7mm rem mag, 30-06 are all solid ones though.
It's hell eatin em live

he didn't list one Weatherby Cartridge on the list.....clear the guy is an amateur. he has 3 .284 caliber rounds in the list and two 6.5's but only 1 .30 cal and 1 .33 caliber.

Like others, list has some worthy and unworthy. .338 win for elk ranks high; I need one.

It is his opinion and we all know what they say about opinions.
really there are some on that list I would include but he left out some good ones and from the pictures he hunts out West. I skimmed through and didn't see what if he mentioned it what his criteria was for those selections. Some of his choices are basically duplicates of other choices.
Like many things I take these lists with a grain of salt

MY top 10 1. 30-06 2. 30-30 3. .270 Winchester 4. 7mm Remington Mag 5. .300 Win mag. 6. .257 Roberts 7. .243 Winchester 8. 7mm Mauser 9. 45-70 Gov. 10..220 Swift
Since my main "Big Game" animal is the whitetailed deer, I chose those calibers because I have killed at least one whitetail with each of them and I own every caliber.
