OK set up is 150 acre grass field on the north side with a fence separating the grass and a 250 acre mesquite/scub oak/tree mot area. wheat field to our east but not ours.

Planning to out the stand 125 yards in the field facing south with the feeder 25 yards off the fence-idea is to pull deer out of the mesquite. the grass field ALWAYS has cows and my lease mates dont always shoot straight-and there is the issue of pass through on the critters shot. plus the is a large rise along the fence so if there is a miss/pass through the dirt mound will likely catch it.

thing is I see lots of set up with the stand along the tree lines/fences with the feeder in the field-figure this is for the "back drop" to hide the hunter better.

Am I over thinking this?

I wouldn't make the deer jump two fences (the cross fence, and the feeder pen). Is there any way for you to put the feeder in the mot area? Can you post a satellite photo of the setup?

had the set up in the wooded area but trying to set up and easy place for 74 yo step dad to get to. setting up in the field keeps him from having to cross any fences. I will see if i can get a photo of the area

It don't matter to me now what your place looks like. My wife is 70 and enjoys hunting. I would not place a stand where she had to go under, over, or through a fence. Of course i'm using her as the excuse for me not to have to do it also.
