If you're hunting them right off the roost, you better be there before first light. I like to be in position 30 minutes before the first gobble.

If it's a place I've never hunted before, I like to be in the general area to hear them gobble on the roost. Then make my set up accordingly. After a day or so, I will be set up when they start to gobble on the roost.
On how long I stay at it depends on the turkeys. As long I keep hearing them gobble, I stay at it. Usually about by 10am, they get the ole lock jaw. Then I come back to camp. Then when I start to hear them sound off in the afternoon, I'm back at it.

We killed turkeys yesterday at 930, 11, and 130. Can't kill them from the house

Had jakes and hens early at 7:10 am and all morning but big Tom not until 10:00am. he came right in to my set and about to destroy my Jake decoy when he took DNT. Had turkeys moving all day yesterday. Glad I didn't spend the night as today is washout in Stephens Co.

At my lease normally don't go out until 9 to 9:30 and stay to noon and then back about 1 to 2. Seems 10 to 11:30 and then 1 to 4 are our best times. If I was hunting a new place I would be out at first light. I killed one at camp last year at 12:30 while eating lunch. I had never even seen one around there.

If I am hunting them off the roost and calling, I am there 30 minutes before shooting time. If I am playing with the calls, I go whenever I want to and take my gun only if I have tags to use. For me, after the first bird calling is 99.9% of the turkey hunt.
