I have one of these and focused the beam in pretty tight the other nigh. Looked at the coons under my feeder about 70 yards away and one coon looked right at me, stood up on its rear legs for a second and then trotted off. If the light is too focused, are they seeing it? Shadows?

I have had deer and coons spot my IR while at feeders but I think they are seeing the red glow coming from the light not sure

Right, most predators don't see into that end of the spectrum very well, worse than humans, so they aren't seeing the shine of the light. They are seeing the glow.

Deer see the glow as do hogs, rabbits, raccoons, and coyotes seem to really spot it pretty quick.

Thank you. So how do I minimize their ability to see it? Not as focused?

They will see it, focused or not, but more focused will probably catch their eye more as it will appear brighter to them.

How far are you using the light on these animals?

What frequency is the IR illuminator.
If it's an 805 or 850, they can see it, just like you can see the faint red glow when you look at the light.

You can go to higher frequency.
They seem oblivious to the 940nm laser illuminator on my NV scope.
I have another small torch with a 940 pellet installed but it is only powerful enough to see 30-40 yards.

Generally, the higher you go in frequency, the more power you need to see the same distance.

Cheers,

fr3db3ar, That's great range for a 940. Do you have the 2 battery model or the single battery?

I got the stubby. That being said I'm preferring the 850 for the photon. I still have to test them both on the the LRF 960 but I've already seen the 940 on thev960 and like it there.
