I bought a new tundra a month or so ago and I want to put a leveling kit on it. I'm looking at 3/1 strut extension kits from either Pro Comp or Ready Lift. The kits are not spring expansion kits, rather an extension that fits on top of the strut. I believe they lower the diff too in order to relax drive-line stress. After calling two local Toyota dealerships and talking to their service depts, these are the brands they recommend and install on their upgraded conversion vehicles. I'm not looking for a full on suspension lift with new tires and wheels, I just want to level the truck and keep my stock wheels and tires.

Has anyone used one of these strut extension kits before? Experience any negative side effects with the handling/longevity of the truck?

Id leave it be the truck is in its natural set and how it should be with a lift... I don't have hands on experience for the handling but would think it would make the rear stiff... in a few ways

Is it the TRD Pro Tundra that comes with Bilstein shocks?

It is not a TRD. It's an SR5 TSS CM 4X4.

If it is a Tundra TRD Pro, you couldn't pay me to touch it, anything other than a high dollar well designed lift will be a huge step backwards.

3/1 is gonna look real odd with stock tire size & will appear nose high, hauling much of anything in the bed will result in nose high, towing anything but an empty light single axle trailer, nose high.
Go out & take a tape measure & some blue painters tape or masking tape.
Measure in the center of the front wheel from ground to wheel well lip, 3" up from there put a piece of tape to mark the 3" lift. Back off 20' or so & take a look, imagine 3 more inches of empty wheel well between top of tire & wheel well.
Now look under it and see what placing a a spacer on top of the spring will do to the suspension angles...
And no matter what you hear from anyone 3" in the front is too much without using a proper lift kit. The suspension geometry won't even be close to stock, 3" will stiffen the ride & put strain on front end components.

2/0 will look best with stock tire size.
2.5 / 2.5 looks the best all around & allows for a slightly taller tire later on.

While I lifted my Tundra a similar amount, I did not use either of the companies you mentioned. I have a 2008 Double cab TRD. When it was new I went with Bilstein 5100's in the front (2.5" of lift) and a long add-a-leaf in the rear (1.5" lift). I also put on a differential drop kit to keep the front CV angles happy. Got 158K on her now and all has been great.

I went with the extra leaf in the rear because the factory springs were a little too soft for my taste, and it squatted too much with a light load. I also am not a fan of the "nose high" look and this balanced the front 2.5" lift out pretty well. Also did not break the bank.

I run 305/75-18s with plenty of clearance. Works out well for me as I get more ground clearance and a better look without altering the speedo too bad or killing the mileage.

Nothing wrong with the front being level - every truck I've ever driven that's been leveled actually drives a lot smoother than stock in my opinion. If it caused a problem nobody would do it - not saying you're wrong or trying to change you're opinion just figured I'd give my input as well!

I would personally do a 2.5 leveling kit. Had that on my f150 and on my ram 1500 before going to a suspension lift kit. I was running 34's with both of them no problem. probably could've thrown 35's under there with a -12mm offset and wouldn't rub on my control arms. Go anymore negative or positive and I would've had rubbing.

I do pull a travel trailer every so often but run load levelers so the squat is minimal. The only other thing I pull, which I pull almost every weekend, is my boat. My boat is a relatively light aluminum job so again, squat is minimal. One cool thing about the new Tundra is that I have a headlight control so I can bring the headlights down when the truck is squatting in the rear.

Here are a few pics I pulled from the web that, IMO, look pretty good for a simple leveling kit. This is the look I'm going for but don't want to spend 5K on a "real" lift kit, wheels and tires. Maybe one day but not now..

I used the rough country leveling kit in my Silverado and am very happy. Tons of people level their trucks like this. The only issue I have noticed is if I turn the wheel all the way to one side and try to make a sharp u turn, my cvs sometimes pop. I don't like this but rarely need to turn the wheel that hard. Its worth it to me for the added front ground clearance.

I think gas mileage went down a little too but if you are considering leveling out a 4x4 pickup then I bet mpg is not your first concern.

I have installed a few leveling kits, mostly on F150's. They have the same style strut as the Tundra, and the leveling kit goes above the stir. If this is something you are attempting at home, you will need some help and some longs nd string pry bars along with spring compressor. The cola Tory strut will come out easily, once spacer is installed, you will be prying a lot on the lower control arm to get it to fit, even with the spring compressor. It's lot of work, but the end result looks great. It doesn't effect the ride at all because it's not actually doing anything to the spring, just lowering the mounting point

I also went with the Bilstein 5100's up front with a Coachbuilder shim for 2.75 inches in the front with a 1.5 inch ADd A Leaf from Toytec in the rear. You can get the Coachbuilder shim from Tundratalk. Here is a link to my truck with the level kit.

This is a picture with the Bilstein 5100s, 1.5 AAL, and TRD Pro grill on my TSS Offroad. If you are interested in the TRD Pro Grill and hood bulge it is an easy installation. It took me 10 minutes tops to install myself!

i leveled my 150 other than that all i want is taller tires.
I have never understood the 5-6 inch lifts. Tires are the only thing that get the axles higher.
