Been saving up preference points and hope to use them in 2018. Will have 5 points. Any recommendations for a good GMU and perhaps a guide who could accompany us?

Good question. I'll have 6 points and I've been trying to plan an elk hunt as well in the coming year(s). I booked an archery pack-in timberline hunt for mule deer with Action Adventures for unit 65/66 during the last week of Aug. They mainly elk hunt in that area; you might check them out.

I wouldn't bother looking for deer on that hunt.....I'd be looking for Randy Ulmer.

I'd save them and just hunt OTC. Due to point creep in CO you basically have to be well into double digits on NR points to get to any mecca's. But might give you a dual option via lessor unit/season mulievtag

They're cutting tags by 50% in the basin this year, so if you went in with points, expect to have a Plan B.

Deer. Undecided on elk currently. That's supposed to be addressed in May.

No cuts in unit 65 that I'm aware of.
