Last year I did my first panhandle food plot. One of the guys on our lease brought his tractor and did one for me and him. He is no longer on lease so therefore no tractor. I did 2-- 1/2 acre plots. The plot turned out great and the deer were all over it.
So does anyone have suggestions on how to turn the dirt over this year?

Rent a small tractor, or ask landowner if the neighbors would do it (if they have the equipment)

Hookemhorns, consider going the "throw & mow" route. I'm on my third year with this method on three small plots and will never disc the ground again. The plots get better year after year as thatch builds. Do a google search for more info and success stories. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1ILPI_enUS735US736&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=throw+and+mow+food+plots&* Here's my report I did on another site regarding my second year with T&M. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/wildlife-management-food-plots/411363-second-year-throw-mow.html

Since the land was recently plowed, you might be able to just go over it 2 - 3 times with a drag harrow, then use a seed spreader to seed it, then follow up with one more pass with the harrow. The small harrows pull easily behind a ATV, UTV or even a pickup. I had one that looked like this. The tines were made from railroad spike and I had a couple of railroad ties wired on top to give it some bite. It worked great in west Texas. Pulled it with a 4WD pickup with a tailgate feeder full of wheat seed.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.
