Joel and I were out doing some steel shooting before our night hunt for predators...

It was honestly pretty ***** conditions with swirling wind and lots of mirage but we didn't care just out shooting...we set the steel and ranged it at 605 yards.

All the stars had to align and I would say a little luck played a role but I cranked off 3 shots pretty fast as to run the condition and Joel in the spotting glass said... "all in same spot" well, we drove down to the steel and this is what we saw... didn't have a caliper with us but really didn't need one. Lol.

Thanks for letting me know what a 600 yard group should look like. I couldn't do the math in my head to make such a shot.

There is zero math.

He probably dialed the elevation turret to read 3.5, 3.6, or 3.7 and let em go down range.

12.5 divided by 3.43 = 3.64 Mil

Same finish line, different road to get there. grin

But how did just dialing in the elevation and letting them fly eliminate the effect of the swirling wind and heavy mirage factors. nidea

Run the condition. We shot a group right after that that has maybe 1/2" of vertical but was a 2" group... everything just came together for that 15~ seconds

In this case mirage actually helped... that's how we made the wind call.

The wind is the trick. Always will be.

Point was to Dan, there is no math, no slide rule, not even a ballistic calculator if you've shot the cartridge enough, if we're talking elevation. And I bet Chase has.

The only math is .5 Mil per 5 mph at 3 or 9 o'clock. Multiply from there.

I shot a group with my 260 on Saturday at 500 that I was pretty pleased with, but I ain't posting it here! That's pretty darned salty shooting right there.
