for the use of scope, that does not require drilling the receiver and devaluing the gun, custom made scope mount, the rear attaches to the holes for peep sights the front is in the dovetail for the rear iron sight. another system "STITH" used similar method, however the scopes were limited to very small weaver scopes ect. I have a man in Ca. make these for me. the hump at the rear is space for the cocking indicator.

Very slick..... I have two Savage '99's.....both in .300 Savage.....

I love those 1899's, I have no scopes on mine, but at the point in life I won't be hunting with any of them.
