Going to look at a lease this weekend about 10 miles north of town. Just wandering what the Turkey hunting is like. Thanks.

crazy how that works... id say the key would be roosting areas... the one I was on had big run offs going through it with large oak trees that made plentiful roost...

We are starting to get into desert scrub country on our place, probably a little SW of where you were. Our tallest trees seem to be cedars. But I have seen them on the Juno cutoff before so I know they are nearby

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

I hunt about 35-40 SW of Ozona off Pandale Road. I have seen several large groups (20-30) of turkeys over the past 5-6 years. I was fixing to say that Crockett was in the North zone and season wouldn't be open until March 25, but looked at the TPWD annual regs and see that Crockett is in south zone for spring turkey but north zone for fall

There is a very healthy population on the Schleicher/Crockett County line. Pockets of birds south near Juno along the dry river and Devils River.

My buddy's place just East of Iraan had good numbers for a few years and then nothing for a few years. They have started coming back though. Their place is half high plateau and lower ground and the birds roost in cedars on the plateau edge and fly down.
I think it depends on water and trees fro roosting. Kind of hit or miss out there?

I have been hunting in SE Crockett Co for 25 years and we are loaded up with birds. It is the main reason we have held onto the lease for so long. I agree with the earlier person posting, if you have roosting trees then you will have turkey's.

Our place along the Reagan-Crockett County line has plenty of turkeys. Also, we don't have 3 trees on the entire place that will support 2 birds, much less a flock, but we have 2 high lines that run through the place and bunches can roost up there.
